Magic Weekend 2025

Recommended Posts

"SunSport has learned it is already in the calendar for 2025 - even though strategic partners IMG hinted they wanted rid of it.

And four cities are said to be in the running, Nottingham, Newcastle, Cardiff and Dublin.

Then for 2026, Paris is on the agenda."

Tip of the Iceberg in going away from the recommendations of the Strategic Partners, I fancy there will be more.

I think the article addresses that somewhat in that it was more of a soft recommendation. I also don't think disagreeing is a big issue. I can see sense in the recommendation to scrap it and focus on your core events (league and cup), but I can also understand why people like it.

But if there is anything in this article, it would be very nice if the bold staging of it was based on truth and not just the same old annual PR before announcing Newcastle.

I'm not sure Dublin is a good idea, but I think a French or even one in Barca could do really well.

I always think they should look at a 'split Magic. Only a small minority are interested in watching two full days in a stadium, so taking this year's teams, why not on a Bank Holiday weekend have:

Saturday (Newcastle / Nottingham)

Leigh v Salford

Leeds v Castleford

Hull v Rovers

Sunday (Montpellier / Barcelona)

London v Huddersfield

Saints v Warrington

Wigan v Catalans

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

Isn't this the same article we see every year about Magic? 😂

We're getting Trotter's Independant Traders in to organise the venue next year. It will either be New York, Paris or Peckham.

I think ‘Magic Challenge Cup quarter finals’ seems to have fallen out of favour as a suggested hybrid/improvement of the concept.

So I bring to you Magic Playoffs!

First round of the playoffs featuring Super League and Championship first round playoff matches.*

It’s bound to have some big teams and might see a big improvement on the overall gates.

Plus maybe you’ll get interest from non supporters of the two teams as an end of season jamboree to liven up the playoff system.

*Yes, you might have to work out a compensation formula for teams missing a home game.

It’s a deal if it can be called Magic Cup Playoff Nines!

No deal.

I despise the name Magic.

I have no idea why this event is called Magic Weekend. And I'm even more surprised that the Aussies borrowed it too.

Isn't it just from the alliteration from being held at the Millenium stadium (Millenium magic), then Murrayfield, then Manchester. Then had to call it Magic Weekend, when we'd run out of places beginning with M to host it.

Yep. I've always hated it. Never got the branding right as far as I'm concerned.

If you actually give it some thought (I'd recommend not doing tbh) but Millennium Magic was a really weird name for a Rugby League festival.
