The battle for third place

Recommended Posts

A key Hornets fixture needing 1 point to secure the home play-off on 14/15 Sept.  The start of a very testing programme to attempt Championship status.  Our near neighbours, having secured that excellently, may be needing some autumn rugby action- 😤🔜👩‍❤️‍💋‍👨 - and surely would be welcomed (after their party on Sunday).

14/15.9     3v4 and 5v6……..Qualifying and eliminating play-offs, respectively.

21/22.9    Semi 1………….…..Keighley v winner of 3 v 4        Winning club to final

                 Semi 2…….…..…..Loser 3 v 4 v winner of 5 v 6

29/9         Prelim final……….Loser Semi 1 v winner of Semi 2

6/10          Final……………..Winner of Semi 1 v winner of Prelim final

Home venue will be that (of the finalists) which finished highest in the league campaign.

13/10*      Promotion final…Championship club* finishing 12th v Final winner…..(* at their ground).

The final tie should be home and away - aggregate score.

“Warnings for thunderstorms and heavy showers have been issued by forecasters for Sunday, covering much of England and parts of eastern Wales.”🛟☂️

“But the forecaster also warned the "extent of these thunderstorms is very uncertain, and many places will miss them"‼️

A brilliant 32-18 victory to finish 3rd.

Next, our home play-off against Hunslet.   Win that and it’s a semi-final at Keighley!
Winner to final.   Home venue will be that (of the finalists) which finished highest in the league campaign.

We’re going to have to do it tough then. We were good value for that win today. Another week when the £12 I spent on a ticket was the best £12 I’ve spent all week ! I wouldn’t like to pick out any one player, they all did us proud. Again our line defence was really good. Keighley scored one try when a defender slipped on the wet grass and left a big hole they waltzed through. In the second we fell asleep once and they got a close range effort, other than that we were good.

Keighley are obviously going to be a handful at their place if we get past Hunslet but I didn’t see anything to make me think we couldn’t pull off a result there.

Sure all at Oldham would like nothing better than you joining us in the Champ.

Congratulations on your excellent promotion.   You and many of your fellow supporters (2680 today 👏👏) would be very welcome to cheer Hornets, helping us to join you next season.

Wtf is this sudden 'entente cordiale' between us Roughyeds & the old enemy !  🤣

Seriously, best of luck to the red, white & blue in the quest for promotion. The A627 derby in the Championship sounds very appealing.

Great to see, respectful rivalries and while I'm red, white and blue to the core, its good to see Oldham promoted and doing well and Hornets in good shape also and making solid progress on and off the park.

Seems a good relationship between our respective club Owners / boards and hopefully a cracker of a Law Cup game to look forward to as a minimum in 2025.
