Whitehaven in financial trouble

Recommended Posts

Great news that Whitehaven will be playing their fixture at Dewsbury and hopefully the rest of the season. I hope that whatever is going on at the club can be ironed out. Hopefully more fans will turn out to back their town team and help alleviate the financial woes that blight our game. All the best "Marras".

No disrespect to Dewsbury but they would have been crazy to not play this fixture as they have a really good chance of winning which makes the bottom of the league really tight with Barrow playing Swinton and fax losing to Wakey. Its going to be an exciting end to the season if Haven can continue and that last game Haven V Fax looks like it could be crucial.

It does, and the way Fax have been playing this season i wouldn't risk one penny piece on them getting a result up there to save us❗🙄

Depends how many bodies we can get out on the field.

Only 16 players named in the squad on the RFL website. Hope they are all fit!

They won with 15 last week. Or 16 .....

Only 14? Are players still to play?

15 named in squad but 1 dropped out. One suspended but back next week. One injured last week but might be back next week. That is all currently I think unless one of the long term injured players gets back before the end of the season.

Players have been paid by all accounts.

Are the words player welfare only used by the RFL when it suits them? Haven should have been able to pad that squad out to make sure they couold have 4 clubs even if it meant bringing amateur players in. Crazy that they had to play a game in the second tier of English ruby with just 14 players. Also you have to question the players who chose not to play as well.

Near enough all the other players are injured. Fax took back our 2 loan players we had, we had 1 banned who couldn't play. If we get anymore in it comes with a points deduction that would relegated us no matter what.

Right... The RFL are to blame?

What do you mean, "crazy they had to pay a game Crazy that they had to play a game in the second tier of English ruby with just 14 players." The RFL didn't force them to play with that number.

The RFL should have forced them to forfeit if they only had 14 players available, not sure what the rules are for minimum number of players.

The RFL knew the number of players they had when they named their squad. They should have allowed Haven to make that squad up to 17/18 players. We can't say the game is all about player welfare and allow a situation like this to happen.

I believe Hursey picked up an injury and with Fax picking up at least 2 injuries themselves against Swinton they did not have much choice but to bring Campbell back even though the lad just isnt going to get picked so its a shame for him but we only managed to name a 20 man squad this week with him included.

Hursey would of served his ban this week so wouldn't of been able to play anyway. Shame you had to recall them as they're both too good to be sat on your bench not getting game time, maybe re-called them as you're also in the dog fight at the bottom. Shame it's 3 going down this year.

They're playing in RLs second division... I don't think you should be allowed to register players last minute to make up numbers.

If they didn't have enough they should have forfeited. Not sure how you can put that at the RFLs door.

Guess times have moved on from the time Geoff Fletcher picked the coach driver on the wing for Huyton.

Minimum number to start a game is 9.

Money issues aside a relatively small, c23, squad has been very badly hit by long term  season ending injuries. They have ended up using a lot of loan players during the season

The transfer deadline coupled with the money issues brought that policy to a head over the last couple of weeks

Ok. I attended the game v Dewsbury today as a Dewsbury fan. On spirit and passion alone the Marras deserved to win. They will not be able to do this for the next five weeks. Finally the RFL should not step in end of. Start looking within. Who has trotted off with the promised brass? Sorry to be so blunt but it is not for the RFL and other clubs to bail you out!
