Bit of Keystone Cops to finish the game.

Fiji 10:22 PNG at FT

The Bati could do with Koroisau's organisational nous, but he's suspended for the duration of the tournament.

7,581 crowd in Suva.

I am not sure we have any historical figures to draw upon, but that feels to me like a very good start.

I was intrigued to see so many PNGers there. It made me wonder whether there is an emerging PNG middle class.

We seem to take for granted that league is the number one game in PNG and I have never understood why (leaving aside people who would be casually racist, none of whom I have ever come across on here). Its population is more than NZ, Samoa, Tonga, Fiji etc combined. And, while progress is slow, it is becoming wealthier and more developed by the day.

To see them beat a talented (if lopsided) Fiji team and for it not to be particularly noted/notable shows extraordinary progress.

PNG is on the march. Our game is on the march.

Enjoyed Fiji v PNG. Altho I I found Corey Parker’s commentary very patronising and condescending. Treats the game like all the players are idiots.

Great to see a game in Fiji tho.

I think the NRL should revive the mid season ANZAC test between Aus and NZ. Could play Tonga vs Samoa and Fiji vs PNG on the same weekend.

The NRL goes all in on international rugby league, unfortunately they decided they get 90% of the rewards for 60% of the effort concentrating on PI/NZ/AUS

100% effort and reward would mean to include not only Oceania and one WC in 4 years, 1 Ashes and one All Gould tour and for the rest let one PI tour

They do not value Eirope, EMEA, Africa as a good investment

Well enjoyed the first week but the format just always leaves you wanting more. Bye weeks and a maximum 3 games just isn't enough for what is now the entire international calendar.

It's just a pity because I dont think it would take much for the Pacific Championship to be massive and be a key tool in taking over the Pacific Islands completely. The teams are there and the interest from fans is there, the administrators need to do little more than getting the format right, with more games, and letting it snowball.

Bringing back mid season internationals is a must. Perhaps they could have the pacific championship every 2 years but make the competition longer. And leave the other year for Tours, and other friendlies.
