Trinity v Whitehaven brilliant gesture

There are a multitude of factors involved and it’s disingenuous to suggest otherwise. All companies make projections based on many factors and these income projections dictate spend.  Projections don’t always come to fruition for various reasons, but perhaps you always get it right…

How is asking a question disingenuous?

I don't always get things right but when I don't I will accept it's my fault. If I spend more than I bring in and don't budget accordingly then sure as hell it's my fault.

Oh sorry, I read it as an insinuation rather than a genuine question, it came across that way, perhaps I’m overly cynical. Once you’ve seen their accounts, let us know if it’s the fault of the Whitehaven board. In the meantime let’s sit back and let them go under, that’ll teach ‘em.

You’re presumably running a household with fairly static income and expenditure and hopefully you also have the luxury of a savings buffer. Running a semi professional RL club is, I imagine, less predictable. Whitehaven aren’t the first and won’t be the last in this situation.  No doubt sometimes it’s entirely the fault of the club’s board and other times it’s entirely outside their control. I suspect it’s generally somewhere in the middle.

As someone who is well versed in cash forecasting, in environments insanely more complex than Whitehaven RLFC, the simple answer here is that it would 100% be their fault.

As someone in a similar position, you absolutely cannot say that with any certainty.

I can and I do. A lot. My company charges global organisations across all sectors a stupid amount of money for me to say that and then help them do it properly.

Then you must be right.

I'm not sure why you are being so tetchy and you can't accuse people of being disingenuous then come out with nonsense about watching them go under. I wish Whitehaven all the best and would hate for any club to go under.

I was questioning your assertion that it's not their fault just because other clubs have overspent too. That's no excuse and in the vast majority of cases that would be the fault of those clubs too.

Maybe Wakefield should split the money between Whitehaven and Halifax....

A noble gesture from Wakefield but it does seem a bit like giving a tramp a tenner in the hope he sorts himself out with a good meal, when in fact he'll just end up spending it on booze.

My thoughts whenever the missus wants to give a fiver to every dosser laid out in front of Wakefield Cathedral.

This world was never meant for one as beautiful as me.

Well, it's better than letting "him" rot in his own ######, and at least we can say we have tried.

Maybe "he'll" get a shower and a new coat and will make a positive difference to the world in the future.

And, in giving to the needy, we feel better for it. Even if they subsequently OD in an alleyway. We did our bit.

Blimey, that went deep!
