I don't have much to say especially as I don't get paid.  I don't find it much fun reading all the haters comments.  We have a rebranded club which was the subjecty of much derision at the time.  Since then the promoted club has won the CC and finished 5th in their first season in SL going out of the play offs at the first hurdle.  They have now finished fifth again having won just two of their first 9 games and this time have impressively leapt the first hurdle and are now in the semi final.  A massive amount of credit must go to the players, coaching staff AND the owner for the achievements of the last 3 years regardless of the fishing trips made by Mr Beaumont.  By the way I thought the humble pie was hilarious, but he should have sneaked round and interrupted Carney and clown supreme Wilkins.

The humble pie was good, but lots of those deriding him must have thought he had gone out and bought it at the final whistle, they couldn't see the humour in it. Just no sense of humour some folk, gladly those it was directed at saw it for what is was, a laugh.

The humble pie thing didn’t really make any sense though, Leigh have ben quite rightly praised by Sky since they have come up, not quite sure what his point was.

Was it that the sky team had said during the season that they would struggle to get in the playoffs?

That was hardly a controversial statement seeing as they scraped in is it.

I personally just don’t like how he conducts himself with his public persona, that’s hardly a controversial statement either.

Do people who know him like him? I know several other club owners aren't big fans.

How about those players he didn't want to pay?

My critique of his humble pie bit is not really about when he bought the pie.

On the first televised game of the season, Carney asked Samkins, Wilkin, Amor, and an Aussie lass on the commentary "Which club that finished in the top 6 in '23 would fail to finish in the 6 in '24 everyone if them said Leigh to be replaced by Leeds.

That was the reference to them eating his 'Humble Pie'

It was a bit of fun nothing more nothing less, but apparently there are those who have no sense of humour who took it out of context.

Why do you think people took it out of context?

It was a very easy joke to follow.

Don't know Dave, you have described it exactly what it was a joke, those at the butt of the joke accepted it as such, seemingly some are just to slow on the uptake judging by some of the comment's I've seen.

Exactly right, it didn't have any humour attached.

Although I do accept humour is subjective, Derek is the Super League equivalent of Mrs Brown's Boys and it just isn't for me.

I'll be honest, I think it's you that is missing the point a little here.

I dont mind this stuff, ive made the point before that I find a lot of our stuff a little sterile, so i dont mind a bit of personality. But, this isn't comedy genius, it's a brash loudmouth being a brash loudmouth. And that's fine, but his style of humour is meant to antagonise and wind people up, it's trolling. People don't have to be impressed by it, there are thousands of Leigh fans who will massage his ego.

But it's wrong imo to make out it's a great joke and people not liking it are missing the point. I dont know DB, he could be a lovely bloke, but what we have seen (offering people a fight online etc) is him being happy winding people up.

His sequel, standing outside the bookies was really rather naff.

It's not unlike some of the boxing stuff - people acting like tools at the weigh in, their fans lap it up, the non-fans dont.

Not everyone has tried humble pie. It's an acquired taste but take it from one who's tried more than he wished is that the more you do partake the easier it is to swallow.

It takes wisdom to know when a discussion has run its course.

It takes reasonableness to end that discussion.

Oh. I bet none of them had Salford finishing 4th in the League either, or Saints finishing 6th. Their prediction for Leigh was hardly way off either, they didn’t cruise into the playoffs comfortably did they.

It was a ###### joke and didn’t really make much sense.

A bit of fun nothing else, the response from Wilkin and co was perfect, to be honest the games this last weekend should have allowed people to move quickly on.

Wasn't the Humble Pie associated with the miners in Wigan breaking the strike and going back to work.

Hence they became known as the pie eaters .

I'm quite intrigued by this.

I have to say, I find some of the stuff he does and says incredibly immature and just not funny at all.  I mean, a box with a pie in it with the word ‘humble’ written on it or a selfie outside the bookies!

As someone who knows him, do you find this stuff more impressive in and of itself or are you just prepared to tolerate it more because of the good stuff you see him do for the club and the sport.

Or is it that you feel you need to defend him because you know him.

I really do like him he has a lovely generous side which I really like 👍

Cue a random story involving DB, Atlantisman and six Russian beauties enjoying caviar and champagne in a little French bistro.

With the main point being how expensive France is

Now your talking let me know the venue and I'll be there 👍 but don't tell the wife.

Got the better of me there Dunny, I think I watched 30 seconds of Mrs Brown's Boys before deciding that it was not for me.

Yes that is the story I heard from being a kid, but some deny it, I would to if I was them.

That's very correct Chris, who would have thought that two lowly Grade 'B's would eclipse 4 Grade 'A's, that was not suppose to happen was it. 👎👎👎

Beating another club that is playing in the same league is always "suppose" to happen.

Well quite, again not sure what point Harry is making.

besides no club has got an actual grading as yet, I thought Leigh were getting an A grade according to Degsy?

It'd be a pretty boring league if it didn't happen.

Well that's a silly statement, the indicative grades were 'standing', we all know that had Hull FC finished bottom, they could not get relegated because of their A Grade, unless you know something different.
