Try a sport that's a bit more entertaining maybe? 1996/97/99/03 Challenge Cup semis and a variety of Aus and Kiwi test matches have had as good an atmosphere as any ground I've been to. 3

I agree. I think its a lovely ground in the bowl and has a great atmosphere with a good crowd in. I haven't been for quite a few years so it's sad to hear that the facilities aren't great, but it really is a nice stadium. It also looks great on TV.

The Blues Ox Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 Why doesn't Ken Davy just buy the Shay and we can change our name to Halifax Giants and be done with it. 1

Simple. He has a lot more sense. Sport, amongst other things, is a dream-world offering escape from harsh reality and the disturbing prospect of change.

Anita Bath Posted December 7, 2024 Posted December 7, 2024 Huddersfield could merge with sheffield and Hull merge with Newcastle…now thats thinking outside the box. 2

Just Browny Posted January 2 Posted January 2 https://www.totalrl.com/huddersfield-giants-search-for-new-stadium-throws-up-potential-venue-share-with-fellow-rugby-league-side/ Here's the link on TRL. I can see the case for a new stadium; I can't see the case for moving to another town in the interim while the existing stadium is still available. If they can only get 4-7k in a central Huddersfield location, I would think they're going to do worse playing in Halifax. And the pitch at the Shay struggles big time with two teams playing on it, can't think a third would be a popular choice - especially among the football fans who are always whingeing about the Panthers. 4 I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

I think a new stadium would be great for Huddersfield but moving like that to Halifax makes no sense, they may as well stay where they are until a new stadium is built. They've played there 30 years, it would be weird and nonsensical to move out, and out of Huddersfield, like that. I think it's also dangerous if whatever reason a new stadium doesn't happen, once they move out they may not get back.

Agbrigg Posted January 2 Posted January 2 This smacks of gamesmanship to me. We did the same at Wakey and made it known to council we were looking to move out of the city. It gave them a nudge and helped to get things moving. I suspect Ken is also using this tactic to put a bit of pressure on the council to find a site. 1
Gooleboy Posted January 2 Posted January 2 All hot air, as if he would move to the Shay! And Halifax probably wouldn't want them there. If he is looking for a site, why not Fartown?

A point brought up elsewhere as well that if Huddersfield moved to the Shay for a season then their IMG gradings would take a hit with the stadium not meeting a number of criteria and they could be in real danger of relegation because of that. The opposite actually, it will actually improve it. At the JSS we lose points on stuff like utilisation, scoreboard, LED lighting and catchment, these would improve at the Shay. I hope it doesn't come to this as a fan but from a business/club point of view it would make sense, especially if we have another poor season on the field as the last 3 years have been poor. Quite simply they cannot get a minimum of 7,000 capacity as well as car parking space on the site, it has been extensively investigated and was the clubs 1st choice, even to the point of the road system around the area having already being agreed to be changed. 7,000 is the minumum required, we could only get a max of 5,200 on it i believe. I find that hard to believe , you dont need to build that much to get to 7000. A two sided ground could easily give you that.
