Which just illustrates the nonsense of this scoring. Is anyone seriously thinking Hunslet getting promoted has any impact on Leeds' catchment?

The presence of Leeds likely has an impact on Hunslet, though.

Yep!

Garry Hetherington

Same with Bramley when he first took tenure over Leeds RlFC

Not just about catchment though is it. Its about the level of support the local authority can lend to a particular club. One club is easier for a council to help out than two or three. This has definitely proven an issue in the past in the Bradford and Wakefield authority areas.

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

Ah right, so clubs should be relying on their LA....

I quite deliberately didn't say that, so why have you chosen that form of words?

I dont think that is what it was intended for. Its about catchment area for fan numbers. Anyhow what ever it is, its stupid and should be scrapped.

Now confirmed that Ken Davey has an offer in to buy the Shay and is willing to spend money on bringing it up to SL standards allowing Huddersfield to use it as a temporary home.

Truly bizarre, can't see how this improves Hudderfield in any way, yes it's a smaller stadium where 4-5k crowds won't look as bad as they do at the Goatfarm, but are they likely to get even that playing in another town?

I don't see how this can be in any way an interim solution. The sensible interim solution is to carry on playing where you've been playing for the last 30 years, until you have a new ground. Relocating away from Huddersfield, risking losing some fans in the interim, to then come back later, is surely much worse than that?

Consequently there's only one way to really read this, whatever the spin put on it: After several years of trying Ken Davy has accepted that he can't get another site in Huddersfield, knows that Giants aren't sustainable at their current ground, and so is reluctantly relocating them to Halifax where he can get a ground quickly. It's the least-bad option for him, compared to the only other alternatives. But he doesn't feel able to tell the fanbase that in such blunt terms and thinks them "getting used to games in Halifax" for a few years before the reality slowly becomes clear is a better pathway.

What are the fans of Huddersfield's thoughts on this potential move? I've yet to actually read them.

Surprisingly positive from what I have read on FB. Fax fans like it as well obviously. Town fans think they would be better going with a supporters trust that will have no money to make any improvements to the stadium over someone willing to spend millions on it to bring it up to standard. 😂

Are you not worried it may lead to talk of a merger?

On a number of levels this makes sense and it's the opportunity to get a tidy stadium for relatively little.

The trouble is I can well see this becoming a permanent move and no stadium in Huddersfield being built.

Honestly Im not that fussed, Fax are not in a good position without outside investment, there is no hope of SL with the ground in its current state. Maybe this gives people a bit of hope. For me personally I spend more time watching amateur games than I do watching Fax games but it might spark my interest again with investment in the club.

This only makes sense if it is a permanent move. It genuinely makes no sense at all as an interim move. This is step one in a merger, Davy is just "boiling the frog". Quite clever really, it makes a lot of sense for all parties.

Ken has pumped Millions into Huddersfield in to the club over many years, yet the club is not  sustainable without is money. If this goes ahead I can see Halifax growing as a club and Huddersfield declining. The Ken may realise he is better backing Fax with his money

If Huddersfield move to Halifax, they will become Halifax.

I’m not making a comment for or against, but it takes a while for the penny to drop with these things.

There will be only one club! Merger by 2028, I'd place money on it.

That genuinely could be a great thing. Often sensible solutions come about only when people are faced with a choice between that and a disastrous alternative. That's probably the reality now for both Fax and Hudds fans I think, who are probably more pragmatic than we'd expect... perhaps after 30 years some rugby league fans will accept a merger as a good thing.

Given the amount of money the council are losing on the Shay I reckon a smart operator like Davey could persuade them to just hand it over

I'd imagine taking the Shay off Halifax Councils hands will be far cheaper.

There isn't really anywhere to build one.

Wow. I saw this being tweeted by Gledhill earlier and assumed it was made up. It really seems confusing on a number of levels for Huddersfield to spend a load of money on upgrading a stadium in another town for a short term stay. But if they're serious and are willing to pay, Calderdale will surely bite their hand off.
