Re the recent thread about the on-field call. Some posters wanted it abolished in favour of leaving the VR to make an independent decision.

We had 2 Saints tries today where this would have put the VR in an impossible position.

We had a system that worked. Benefit of the doubt to the attacking team in such a scenario.

Not been champions in the Super Leagie era.

Thats the big one I am referring to there.

Well, we still have a chance this year, and while there is a chance I will believe and have hope.

The next move saints might  make is to open the passenger door of the taxi booked in the name of "Mr. P. Wellens"?

His vision and game awareness put Wigan in front in the 2018 GF, and they never looked back.   Ratchford stood out more for his individual effort and won the HS Trophy.

He's had moments like that here and there but I'm talking about him gripping a big game and making it his. He did that today and he should do it more often. Guys like Maguire, Long, Sinfield, Tomkins etc did it over the years but Williams rarely had until tonight.

It's not sour grapes btw, I think the world of Williams. He's a Wigan lad and played his part in winning things with us. When I've seen comments over the years saying guys like Welsby and Lomax are the most gifted British players in the league, I think they're wrong because I think it's Williams but he's not stamped his mark on enough big games. Today he did and I was happy (ish) to see it.

I sort of felt a bit sorry for Percival blowing it after that amazing conversion.

Well, I say I felt 'sorry'...   the same 'sorry' I feel for Philip Schofield saying he won't appear on TV again after his latest comeback attempt.

I appreciate you're making a point about big games, but Williams is miles better than Welsby. Welsby was actually the one player in the Saints side tonight I wasn't concerned about; he is slow and easily wrapped up. He needs to work out what his long term position is because he does not currently pose any threat in attack.

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

I agree the living daylights out of this.

He shouldn’t have been put in that position. The halves (and Welsby) should have taken better control.

@Harry Stottle says George Williams doesn't do much in a game. Thought his contribution was handy tonight.

'Harry' has a massive problem with Warrington. If you can be bothered, look back at his/her posts.

But do you think you will open that taxi door?

I think you will, Briers as assistant is clearly a temporary move. After no silverware for 2 years wello must be on dodgy ground, and uncle Eammon looking for local cab firm numbers?

I am aware of that, but we also know that if results aren't going well contracts are not worth the paper the are written on. If McManus decides enough is enough, they will agree a severance deal and he'll be gone. In my opinion, our former stand off will soon be their new head coach, and I think he'll do a fine job. Warrington made a big mistake the day they allowed him to leave.

Wasn’t that the reason for buying Vaughan?

Vaughan leads by example to an extent, but we do share the work out a lot more and he still does his fair share, but he ain't an Adrian Morley kind of player. Although I suppose not many are.

I think we have many players doing a good stint, but not necessarily a forward out there grabbing things by the scruff of the neck.

Williams is the closest we have to that to be honest, and he's a half back!

Your impenetrable posts continue. But Rugby League has only a marginal presence in Hartlepool.

It's a bit of an aside, but the day and kick off time was perfect for RL. Hundreds of thousands of £ will have spent in the town on a Saturday teatime that wouldn't have for a Thursday game. It's a great slot.

It’s only a small point, but if Wire find themselves in golden point next week. I have seen Powell slot drop at least one long range drop goal to win a match. He may well be a useful plan B.

Great game. Saints showed how dangerous they can still be, and how missing their key players has hurt them. I do think that this shows how important it is to finish in the top 2, because it is a huge ask for Wire to go away to Robin Park and dig even deeper. Good luck to them though, they were looking defeat in the face and turned it round.

Just finished watching it, what a fantastic game and a fantastic weekend overall for Super League. Really glad Wire won, but credit to Saints. Williams was class.

Incidentally, I watched it on Sky but also recorded the BBC broadcast so I re-watched the last 5-10 mins on BBC. Sky commentary did it better by some margin!

I think Briers needed to go taste other club cultures and test himself outside of Warrington in the coaching arena for his own development. But!!! I think the whole bringing in of Powell and his team and the way he was let go from Wire because of that was the mistake.

Briers is a legend of the Wire club. And he probably has some personal business he wants to achieve as a Saints lad Id expect.

It was Sione M's offload, which felt a bit risky, to Dodd that dragged Dodd into being tackled that cost us there I think. I said to my wife at that moment we were going to struggle on that kick. It's a sad state of affairs that having your scrun half tackled on tackle 5 means you are worrying about the next play when it needs to be a long kick.

Stop now. Replay Tuesday in front of 17.8k.

Last replay I attended involving Warrington was back in 1954 when after a 4-4 draw with Halifax in the Wembley CC final they played at Odsal and attracted a crowd officially given as over 102,000 but speculated to have been many more than this.
