The trouble with that, and I do see some merit in sticking 2 fingers up to Penrith, is that it just devalues the WCC and creates a raft of excuses if Wigan win.

I just love the idea of someone shouting in Penrith's face that they're the world champions and hearing the 'but..but..but'. But nothing.

I'd be less worried about Wigan winning and Aussies making excuses - Penrith seem to each year. It would be more awkward if Melbourne won and Wigan fans started to whine that they should have been playing Penrith.

I assume Penrith are holding out until someone makes it worth their while enough financially to forget any concerns about player welfare that they have.

Absolutely this they are waiting for Fox to come in with a big offer or someone in the US to put some money on the table.

Or as normally happens the SL side to take on all the costs and Penrith to be guaranteed their payment.

I wouldn't mind betting the NRL are really driving the cancellation of the WCC  more so than Penrith. They are just getting Penrith to do the dirty work in public.
