New fans want to see the team winning all the time. As the team progresses up the league and defeats start to come, that is when the support drops off.

Spot on.  And when results start going against you, that's when you find out whether you have a successful club.

We never found that out with Toronto because they didn't have enough money.

I don't disagree.

Sadly with Toronto we never got to find out.

A fanbase of 7-9k built out of nothing was impressive (and possible) nonetheless.

No really.  I get tired of "if" merchants.

You must hate any discourse about the future then! All ifs buts and maybes.

Regardless, it was an embarrassing point to make in a discussion.

Toronto were doing what Catalans are now having to do, and that is pay for, hold the hands of,and change the nappies for those Massive,IMG Graded,Super League clubs.....therefore the money quickly goes and guess what? They don't have enough money.

Anyway, this topic should be about Cornwall.A new club away from the heartlands.

Another club away from the heartlands can look at the Grand Final tonight and be proud of their part in the careers of head coach Peters, and Mikey Lewis.

Just as well the attempts by the governing body were, like the other efforts, all in vain.

I sort of do because winning is one aspect but not the only one. It's obviously a lot easier to sell a winning side and no one wants big losses week in week out but ... well, for a rugby league example, compare what the expectation was for London's guaranteed-relegation-and-defeat-after-defeat season versus what became the reality in terms of attendance.

Fair point well made

We can always prove it one way or the other, Tommy.   If you can come up with someone with enough money, we can get him to start a new club or take over Whitehaven or Halifax or Bradford or whoever's struggling at the time and see if he can make them successful.

Until then, I'll put us down as disagreeing.

London's gates were up as they were playing in a higher League against the top Clubs some of whom will have taken decent away followings. If they get to the starting gate next season, they will be lucky to get 500 per game.

They were significantly higher than the last time London were in SL.

Got to give it to Hemel Stags, sold there licence to Perez at the right time for I presume the maximum price. They must have sense things we're only going to get worse in league 1.

No such thing as a license, but they did sell the professional arm of the club, which was then approved to relocate. Anybody know what, if anything, Hemel got for it?

Hemel made a big mistake in moving their training base from Hemel to the North of England hoping to sign better players. It allienated a lot of their home grown players and supporters. I doubt Perez paid very much.

Used the funds to update their clubhouse apparently. No idea how much they got but it would have been more than it's worth now.

Looking further down the facts about Welsh RL are not good reading either.

I've scanned the article but didn't find much on the Welsh RL (being not good reading) can you direct me to the passages which prompted you to comment? My father was involved in the Welsh league formed in 1949.

Again, Toronto built up a rugby league fanbase of several thousands as recently as 2017.

If you have a ball and a field, (and the will) you can start a successful amateur club anywhere.

Ask Bob Brown.

It's happening all over the world.

Our ''so called'' administrators just wont accept the challenge.

I think he was referring to the Wiki article?

All I know is they matched the £90,000 that Sport England granted them. Refurnished the changing rooms. added two more plus a gym. So I guess they must got pounds of Perez

Belfast Giants are now pretty much an integral part of the Belfast sporting landscape. At one point they weren't and Ice Hockey wasn't really a thing in Belfast. Indeed, you'd probably have been laughed out of town to suggest it could be a thing. But it is

It can be done....but if the will isn't there, these things won't succeed. Pretty much as simple as that.

You can say the same about several successful NHL teams. Los Angeles and Tampa aren't exactly known for their winter sports culture. I don't follow the NHL yet alone its history, but I imagine a few people were skeptical about expanding into those markets.

So the latest I’ve heard is the former owners of Glos All Golds are taking over at Cornwall - could be old news by now though.
