Do you really think Perez was in it to get rich?

Absolutely not, a good way to get £10 million out of RL is to start off with £50 million and invest it in a club

I wonder why League 1 and Cornwall could not consider letting them play away games in pairs i.e. 2 each at Easter, May and August Bank Holidays. That would reduce away journeys from 10 to 6 (7 next year). Of course I appreciate the added costs of accommodation and food etc but there's got to be an attraction in, say, playing Newcastle/Goole on one trip and Whitehaven/Workington on another. A once per season trip for away teams is one thing and it can even be a nice weekend for supporters but those journeys for Cornwall must be truly exhausting.

I totally agree but I can imagine the screams from the luddite faction about “fairness” and a “level playing field”

Don't know if / how the Loganair sponsorship impacts the travel arrangements. I do think that some players are flown in for games and back home again (from Newquay) but not sure of the actual details.

But..are you suggesting they could play Friday and Monday games away on a bank holiday weekend?

That seems a bit of a tough ask.

Also have to factor in work and family commitments.

Didn’t hear a squeak from them when Cornwall weren’t allowed to enter the 1895 Cup though.

I know times have changed and player welfare is paramount these days but teams used to play on Good Friday and Easter Monday every year, usually local derbies.

You're probably right to be truthful, I was just thinking out loud really. Mind you, I remember reading of where Barrow played 7 matches in 9 days back in a year when they lost a Wembley cup final 😮  I guess Saturday/Monday. Those same sacrifices would be condensed then though. Either way, I just think all parties should both think outside the box and be helpful to clubs especially at that level. Separately,  I still don't get why Toulouse and Catalans should have to pay all travelling teams expenses. 30 odd people's return flights (if) once a year should be very do-able for clubs at those levels imho.

Yes almost like a bunch of jealous kids deliberately stealing the new kid on the blocks sweets to show who is the boss.

No. I think first of all he had a strong interest in the game, which i don't think is there anymore

Probably because the RL establishment put blokers in the way every time he tried to do anything, anyone would get disillusioned with that.

The game has been on the slide since Rimmer took over reigns, and it hasn't got any better since he left.

The present incumbents at RFL HQ seem to want the game played primarily on the M62 corridor continuing on from Rimmer, and as for wanting the Catalans and Toulouse to pay visiting teams expenses shows how insular we are and people wonder why we can't get big name sponsors on board.

Toronto would/could still be there and maybe even stronger if only 3 of the clubs who voted against them (or abstained - Warrington) being let back/kept in had voted for them. In fairness, St Helens, Leeds and Catalans were in favour plus the RFL. The obvious suspects weren't. Shame as would probably have seen Ottawa come in too (Cornwall - bizarrely - entered in their place). 9,000 average crowds in no time and fair chance that Ottawa would have been similar.

That boats sailed and so has our biggest ever chance of breaking into the most lucrative sports market in the world.

Another problem they'd face is getting overnight accommodation on a Bank Holiday weekend.

We stopped that for a reason.

Some of us (eg me!) are old enough to remember when teams played not only on Good Friday and Easter Monday, but on the Saturday in between, making it three games in four days!

I wonder if that was in a year when the winter was just about as bad as that of the great freeze (1962-63)  That season, Wigan played on 22 December, but then not again until 7 March.  However, they ended up playing 6 games in March, 7 in April and 10 in May!  In doing all that, Sunday was the only day of the week on which they didn't play.

Also back to back to back games over the Xmas period….1952 Rochdale played 25/6/7 December.

In the big freeze year you mention, Hornets last game was June 1. Summer rugby long before Maurice Lindsay😊

No ! Barrow played 7 matches in 9 days at one stage that season and went on to lose to Salford at Wembley.

Correction, appears was 5 matches in 6 days. My apologies.

Ah, right.

The game was different then. Teams would play Christmas Day  Boxing Day and if the next day was Saturday, they'd play again.

Those games were the scheduled fixtures,  not rearranged games.
