No ! Barrow played 7 matches in 9 days at one stage that season and went on to lose to Salford at Wembley.

Correction, appears was 5 matches in 6 days. My apologies.

The game was much slower then and not as taxing. French legend Puig Aubert was known to smoke a cigarette during games.

Widnes played 7 games in 10 days in the late seventies. Wigan had a similar fixture pile up at some point IiRC. Combination of cup fixtures and postponements due to winter weather.

To balance that Players had to play the full 80 minutes ,only 2 subs and contested scrums .

1990-91, 8 league games in 19 days (9 in 22 if you add in the CCSF):

1990-2 Mission Impossible - Wigan Warriors

Hull KR were aiming for a league & cup double in 1985/86 after they beat Leeds in the Challenge Cup semi-final replay.

Cue a period of 16 league matches in 42 days, because of a fixture pile up with the bad winter, and Rovers finished 7th… before the remaining walking wounded who could still just about stand lost to Cas at Wembley with a missed conversion in the final minute 😳

Are you not aware of what the game was like? What you suggest didn't balance it. Even contested scrums slowed the game down, that's why they were stopped.

Unlimited tackle was a very slow game compared to today. Even after that was changed, it took years to speed up. People like Jack Gibson were instrumental in changing how the game is played and it's so much faster than it was 50 years ago. Rule changes have all been designed to make it faster and more appealing to fans, like the recent six again which has kept the game flowing. The game today is much more taxing on players than it was and has got more so year on year.

Nothing heard since the new owner took over

Not true

They’ve announced a few back room staff; some players and season tickets
