Absolute ###### news.

  • Sad 5

With the best, thats a good bit of PR, though I would say the Bedford team, theres, like, you know, 13 blokes who can get together at the weekend to have a game together, which doesnt point to expansion of the game. Point, yeah go on!

Terrible news. I've always admired Sir Chris Hoy, he had an iron will to win when he was competing but did so humbly, then as a pundit he has provided great insight but it has always been about the competitors and not about himself.

That's horrible, I wouldn't wish that on anyone. I can't imagine how scary it must be to know you've only got a couple of years to live... 😢

I have quite a weird morbid phobia about death. I'm fairly certain that once I'd sorted out any financial affairs and said proper goodbyes I wouldn't wait for the inevitable.

Yes, I'm weird.

I've met him a couple of times and he's one of life's good guys. Awful news. He's only a year older than me as well...

Just seems like a great guy off the track, by all accounts. His achievements in the velodrome speak for themselves.

And it turns out that our lovely gutter press appears to have forced his hand in making this public.

Prostate cancer can go $£$% itself.

This may inspire me to go and raise more money for Prostate Cancer UK.

"I am the avenging angel; I come with wings unfurled, I come with claws extended from halfway round the world. I am the God Almighty, I am the howling wind. I care not for your family; I care not for your kin. I come in search of terror, though terror is my own; I come in search of vengeance for crimes and crimes unknown. I care not for your children, I care not for your wives, I care not for your country, I care not for your lives." - (c) Jim Boyes - "The Avenging Angel"

Such  a brilliant cyclist and human.

The saddest thing is it is easy to detect by a simple blood test but there isn't a national scheme to screen men.

I feel so sorry for him, and his wife has just recently been diagnosed with MS too.

Sometimes life is just ######, going through cancer treatment and operations for stage 4 cancer myself, I can only feel heartfelt sympathy for him and his family

Yes I suppose pretty much everyone is afraid of dying but I'm talking horrendous nightmares and being unable to sleep over it. Not everyday but when someone I know dies or gets seriously ill, it really hits me and I obsess over it, knowing one day that will come to me - and worse, my precious Mrs. I better stop talking about it now!

Just ring your doctors, they will have a "Well Man Clinic", you don't need to see the doctor as the nurse will take your blood sample and send it off. At the same time she will check your blood pressure etc.

Well worth it!

If your father or brother has prostate cancer it doubles the chance of you developing it.

Didn't know there was a blood test

PSA test, you are given a "score" if it is elevated they will conduct further tests.

Earlier this year I had a PSA test down at Craven Park, thankfully negative, the Raiders were working with a local Prostate Cancer Group to hold this, the 2nd event, because there isn't a screening programme.  One of the organisers told me all men over 50 can ask their GP but some doctors are "reluctant", although I've already had a test I will be heading to the GP later this year to get another and would ask all of you men to go and get tested.

What the winning score to look out for?

A normal prostate-specific antigen (PSA) level depends on age and other factors:
Age
  • The 95th percentile PSA value for men is:

    60–69: ≤4.5 ng/mL

    70–79: ≤6.5 ng/mL

    40–49: ≤2.5 ng/mL

    50–59: ≤3.5 ng/mL

There are other factors such as family history of prostate cancer and ethnic grouping
