With the IMG gradings and the chairman's comments that Craven Park ( Northern Competitions Stadium) is and never will be suitable for Superleague is a joint venture with AFC the only way forward?

If so, would it be worth it?

Pros

Shiny new stadium

Fit for Superleague

Only half of the outgoings costs

Cons

Loss of primary rights ( EFL would demand AFC have that)

Loss of 100% income streams

I'm sure there are other considerations in the pro and cons tables

Thoughts?

Hypothetical question: If such a stadium was publicly funded, belongs to a town/city and the professional sports teams are invited to play there, on what basis can the EFL insist on calling the shots? Other than avoiding fixture clashes, I don't see what the problem would be.

You aren't allowed in the EFL unless you have primacy of tenure.

The RFL don't have the same rule for their competitions.

Are aspirations for SL genuinely realistic?

Sport, amongst other things, is a dream-world offering escape from harsh reality and the disturbing prospect of change.

Sounds like a restrictive practice to me and not entirely legal.

The EFL would argue that they are rules of their club.

If you don't have primacy you cannot join their club

You've kind of answered your own question: It wouldn't be much of a joint venture if one party has the whip hand over the other as to who's in charge.

We need to be pushing towards the play offs consistantly before we start worrying about Superduper league. We also need to get our finances in place and strengthen the playing squad significantly. If both Rugby & Football were having success and drawing big crowds, who knows what agreements and facilities might be available to them.

Totally agree. We are not established in the top end championship yet. I would rather see us aim for that. I know a new stadium etc is years, away if ever, so it is good to think future, but as you say, let's get established on the field as top end for next few seasons. Now that excites me personally.

All the cash that is in football even in the lower leagues now would the football want to share ?

Holker street as it currently stands probably passes minimum standards  for super league.

  • Capacity – minimum 5,000. capacity over 6000
  • Seats – minimum 2,000. Over 2000 seats
  • Sponsors' Seats: minimum 200, under cover and cordoned off from public areas by a physical barrier. Easily manageable the way seating is at Holker st
  • Corporate Lounges: over 200.  They have that capacity in corporate,
  • Directors Box: 40 seats minimum, all under cover.  Already in place
  • A suitable broadcaster parking area. Have had major broadcasters in recent years no issues
  • Studio space of 4m x 4m. Again already in place.

If we were to move I wouldn't want it to be in a soulless all seater stadium that's far too big for the amount of fans in the game. Give me how Castlefords & Hull Krs grounds look on tv over Huddersfield, Hull FC & Wigan.

Exactly this, anyone who's been to grounds like Doncaster etc will tell you the experience is awful. One stand open, unfriendly stewards (employed by stadium company) and council owned where the club make little to no money outside of ticket sales.

No thanks

I think all this super league talk is completely pointless... we need to concentrate on our immediate future. Securing our revenue streams and building a team good enough to steadily progress up the league. That is not gonna happen over night. We need to know our current level, solidify it, and start to progress. Striving to do things in preparation for a theoretical shot at super league based on criteria that will most likely have changed another 5 times by the time we can meet them seems misguided

Absolutely spot on and agree with everything you say.

Bang on. We need to focus on cementing our place in the Championship before anything else; 2025 will be the first time since the introduction of League 1 we've actually managed to stay in the second tier for more than three seasons. We've been a yoyo club between the second and third tiers for far too long.

We had a great season in 2022 when we got promoted but the last two, we've clung on by our fingernails.

Although it doesn't have to be that way, in Doncasters case for example, our owners run and manage the stadium and make all the money from kiosks and other events (such as the internationals, concerts etc). The council haven't involved since a few years after it was built and the lease change hands

I personally think Warrington have the best RL stadium in the UK. It’s a long way off, Rome wasn’t built in a day. I’d like to see the rugby and the football share a ground but it would need to be done where they are in charge of it and not the council.
