I'll take your word of course especially as Sale manage to average 7,500 but there seems to be no population to the west of the AJ Bell, very little to the north and south and the M60 separates to the east.

Surely they can take advantage of the Trafford Centre which is a 10 minute walk away? These stats are of their page..

The location is an excuse for me.

I think if they can provide a guarantee, then the clubs would nod the advance through fairly quickly, as the alternative would cause some chaos with the league structure.

But if this income is dependant on the council buying the stadium, agreeing to favourable terms on the tenancy, and the purchase and implementation of some expensive kit to advertise on, then they need a plan B.

Toronto’s players wages were guaranteed and that ended well

I don’t think many fans will be happy at the prospect of giving up the SL dream, but that’s the unfortunate reality.

So as reported, Salford have received the following in the past 2 seasons

£364,270 from the share scheme

£215,440 in Loans since Dec 2022 from council

£315,000 grant from the council March this year

£300,000 from sale of Croft and Ackers (The transfer fee Leeds Rhinos have paid Salford Red Devils for Andy Ackers and Brodie Croft - Leeds Live)

6 figure fee for Dupree, £100,000 to be conservative.

That's an additional £1,194,710 on top of their distribution, averaging at £597,355 per season of one off income that still sees them unable to pay bills. Where is the money going to come from to not only bridge that gap but also go further so that they can not only break even but earn enough to service the debts they do have? Especially when they are planning on spending over a third of their yearly distributions before the season even starts?

This new deal for the stadium must be the best deal for a stadium ever if it’s going to plug those holes.

Having perused the Salford fans' forum, it's all someone else's fault, there's nothing to see here, it's no big deal, it's all Matt Shaw's fault, it's just a cash flow problem, it's only a few quid they need, it's the fault of Yorkshire clubs, it's the fault of a club who's trying to nick their players, the club were entitled to believe anyone who promised they would give them something.

It's not the fault of the Salford club. Not in any way.

Exactly what I was thinking, what kind of deal are Salford expecting? Free rent? 10p share of every pint sold? If so there’s another £450 a game

This is what I don’t get. Using my own club as an example, we also play in a council facility (which is what the AJ bell will be), averaged around 3k more in attendances with prices that are around 50% higher, plus have been doing record merch sales(over 8k shirts in 2024) yet we still rely on DB topping us up to fund the marquee deals and pre match entertainment etc. I just don’t see where the money comes from for Salford to afford things.

It's not that a flaw in the business plan has suddenly appeared, it's always been there.

The figures they have been given just to keep them going is mind-boggling.

They have never been self-sustaining.

They are a drain on the game and a drain on the Salford tax payers.

I doubt they are even the best run club in Salford, never mind any wider geography.

I reckon they could learn a lot from Salford Roosters ARLFC.

You do know you're on a forum about Salford's financial issues don't you?

What else would be discussed on this thread?

Maybe you should focus on your club, whilst you have one.

I know the thread topic….seems you delight in coming back to said topic though….whatever the thread topic!

Erm, yes I like using the forum.

Yes, this is the hot topic, for me at least, right now.

Is that ok with you?

I mean, yeah, you'd prefer no-one to be talking about the Salford #######how, but that's...erm...tough!

I’d guess Wakefield, some of the fans seem to have become obsessed in the last few days. Bit odd

An easy fix would be for the Salford shareholders (with their bi weekly newsletter) to forgo the next dividend, it can be reinvested into the club and they can get on with signing Nathan Clearly. Simples!

For me I do have a soft spot for Salford. They are by far the most entertaining team to watch, but they can't keep on with the squad they have and keep getting bailed out by fans, the LA and advances.  The financial deficit is unlikely to be covered by a more favourable rent deal or large advertising board, but maybe the deal may encourage an investor to come out of the wood work.

First time I went in 2016 middle 8’s it was a nightmare because we got stuck on the car park for over an hour. Most recent game in the playoffs I found to be fine, traffic in Eccles was no worse than any other time, just parked there and walked 20 mins to the ground.

1. We played Salford at LSV in the M8’s 2016 2. Traffic was an absolute nightmare getting to Salford in the play offs this year. The car park was no better. 3. A lot of bell ed kids were looking for trouble after the game, something the regular fans were not happy with - maybe this is why they can’t reach potential, even Salford fc are struggling to attract crowds with sub 3k average. 4. Salfords gates at the willows were no better in SL 5. A large board near to the motorway will generate sub 50k pa

I'll do you a deal - Salford stop leaching and I'll stop commenting on a thread about Salford leaching.

Deal?

But they are mostly right in what they say. It’s hard to argue.

As a Trinity fan myself I feel for the Salford fans (whether they’re practicing being ostriches or not). However, I feel if this thread or same situation had Trinity instead of Salford that the vast majority of the forum would enjoy kicking the ribs and offering little sympathy.

I’m still bitter about how a number of other fans were constantly enjoying Trinity cutting their cloth so that they could progress on the field and playing out of a building site. Many fans kicked the club while it was trying its best to address what fans had been criticising it for many years before.

I suppose that why a few trinity fans like me don’t have patience for other clubs run like this. I don’t speak for all trinity fans naturally.

Added to this, it made me laugh how London got so much  sympathy last year and other fans calling for them to stay in deservedly. Yet not having sponsors, constant whining from their back room staff to press, poor on field performances and crowds (even with free tickets).

I guess that’s just my personal perspective.

I do hope Salford sort it out for their fans but I firmly believe they are spending beyond their means on their playing squad and have done for years. It’s a risky business for them. A bad year on the pitch in 2025 and that bubble bursts by mid season. And that does nobody in rugby league any benefit.
