ghost of uncle fester Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 (edited) Drawn at home in round 2 Vs winner of crosfields(Warrington) or maryport. Great draw couldn't have worked out better ,and with SL clubs coming in round 3 there's a fair chance of a money spinner Edited December 2, 2024 by ghost of uncle fester 2
Dave W Posted December 3, 2024 Posted December 3, 2024 Tough first round for Maryport but a huge incentive for them. 1

stillcrazy Posted December 8, 2024 Posted December 8, 2024 How is the prize money allocated in this competition? Is it the case that the further you get in the competition the greater the prize money? 1

That is the case but the money is in the hundreds, not the thousands. Depending on how far you get in the cup, you receive a losing prize money fund for each round, according to documentation seen by Love Rugby League which is sent to clubs. That figure is as follows: 1st round losers: £0 2nd round losers: £500 3rd round losers: £750 4th round losers: £1,000 5th round losers: £1,250 6th round losers: £1,500 QF losers: £8,000 SF losers: £18,000 Runners-up: £35,000 Winners: £100,000 I'm sure it used to be a lot more than that. No wonder the big clubs aren't interested. 1

Stephen Andrews Posted December 9, 2024 Posted December 9, 2024 Interestingly it isn't the first time we have played either side in the Challenge Cup. We played Maryport way back in 1938 and won 83-3 in a first round tie which was for many years the clubs biggest ever win in a competative fixture. We also reached Wembley this season losing to Salford 7-4 in the final. We played "the Soap" in 1966 again in the first round, winning by a narrow 11-2 scoreline on a rain soaked Craven Park pitch that resembled a ploughed field by all accounts. Newspaper reports of the time state Barrow were far from impressive and the result could well have been different had the game been played away. 3
