A memory more that anything  but around 1976 I was 14 and in the ATC. During an Air Display at RAF Finingley (Doncaster/Robin Hood) the Red Arrows(Folland Gnats) swooped low over the  buildings rather than risk accidental mass crowd deaths. You could see the rivets(briefly), then the hot draughts and then the smell of.....paraffin! Kerosene technically but you can imagine just how giddy we were.

living close to London Southend we often see visitors during the summer "airshow" season.  Always fun to drag the kids along under the pretence its for them 😄
