1895 Cup Draw

I pinched this off Blind Side Johnny.

I don't know where he found it.

The details of next season's 1895 Cup have now been released. We will learn on Thursday 12th when our involvement will commence:

Preliminary Round 1 – weekend of 1/2 February

Open draw to determine 6 clubs from League 1 who will compete in this round. Three ties.

Preliminary Round 2 – weekend of 15/16 February

Open draw with the three winners from Preliminary Round 1 joining the 5 League 1 clubs who had a bye in the previous round. Four ties.

The open draw for the Preliminary Rounds will be made in the afternoon of Thursday 14th December at RL Headquarters.

Round 1 – weekend of 1/2 March

Open draw with the four winners from Preliminary Round 2 joining the 12 Championship teams. Eight ties.

Quarter Finals – weekend of 5/6 April

Semi Finals – weekend of 17/18 May

Final – Saturday 7th June, Wembley Stadium

If we win 3 games of knockout rugby, we get a day out at Wembley. Plenty of Fev fans seemed ars''d enough about that in 2021 and at Spurs in 2022.

It's a cup we have a realistic chance of winning, depending on the draw.

Nope, me too. The 1895 cup was already pointless and a distraction before the IMG b*llocks hoved into view, and it's even more so now. That said I know many Fev fans loved their trips down to London for the final so what do I know?

Imho it's the ONLY chance we will ever get of a trip to Wembley to watch Rovers these day's.

For me, there are three advantages and 1 disadvantage of the 1895 cup.

The advantages are:
It gives the club and fans its only realistic chance of a trip to Wembley
It has an IMG point relevance, albeit a tiny one (0.1 point).
Perhaps more importantly, it gives clubs three more games which potentially means more income, depending on who you draw - the gates won't be great for them, but it will be all-pay (ie no season tickets). If we had, say, a semi final with Bradford, you'd think there would be 3 to 4 thousand attending and paying £20+, so a good payday for both teams. Plus the finalists get £15 per ticket sold through the club, so another useful source of income.

The obvious disadvantage is that the extra games can lead to extra injuries/suspensions.

Personally I liked the format whereby the first 2 rounds of the Challenge Cup also acted as the first 2 rounds of the 1895 Cup - it gave a bit more significance to the Challenge Cup because if you got through the 1st 2 rounds you were only 1 game from Wembley. Realistically the only relevance of the Challenge Cup is to try and get an attractive tie against SL opposition, preferably away from home (but not Catalans!).

I have to laugh when we get people Knocking the 1895 cup don't they  realise with all this IMG nonsense and promotion off the table for the foreseeable future a Wembley  final is the only chance for championship clubs to have their day in the sun

I was really being critical of the revised format more than anything  - which has been tinkered with too much and cheapens it even further for me.  i.e. its the how / why / who we are playing that leaves me a bit cold 

That said - I'm not a fan of the comp as such either - and seeing us rattling around at Wembley just doesn't bother me.  I understand that its financially beneficial to get to the final but personally thats all it means to me.  Even the img pts won't make any difference.  Maybe its just us dinosaurs that remembers better times that can't get too excited about the Johnstone's paint knockout.

I was there in 2021 and it was an amazing day, I took my family and their were plenty of tears when we got to see our team win at Wembley, I was lucky enough to be there as a kid in 1983 I don’t think we should knock the 1895 cup personally

Can't really disagree when you put it like that.  Just a matter of opinion I suppose.

In the first round of the 1895 Cup we will be at home to one of three League 1 teams - the winners of Midlands Hurricanes v Whitehaven will travel to Keighley in the 2nd preliminary round, and we will be at home to the winners of that game in round 1.

Even as a york fan losing,  that day was fantastic , the game needs the 1895 cup

We're at home to London in the next round of the 1895 Cup.

Paul Cooke and his team will be emphasising that they have been given an early opportunity to make amends for the defeat last week.

It's not a great draw in terms of likely crowd, but definitely better that we're at home as opposed to away.
