Barley Mow Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 (edited) Draw for the first (preliminary) round: Matches on 1st/2nd Feb. Keighley avoided being drawn in this round, so are free to play the Challenge Cup game against York that weekend. Edited December 12, 2024 by Barley Mow 1

gogledd Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 Blimey! North Wales Crusaders have drawn Cornwall away on the Challenge Cup and Thunder and Goole in the 1895 Cup..thats a total of 1306 miles for me for just our first 3 games! 6
JonM Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 Format seems to be that the 11 League one clubs will play preliminary rounds to get their numbers down to 4, and those 4 will join the 12 Championship clubs (i.e. 13 minus Toulouse) in round 1.

Think I'm right in saying you also don't have a home game in the league until weekend of April 5/6? Pre-season friendly away to Widnes is going to be your shortest trip?

Our first three League 1 games are Dewsbury (23rd Feb, 194 miles), Goole (23rd March, 248 miles) and Workington Town (30th March, 350 miles). Including the friendly at Widnes (66 miles) I'll clock up 2164 miles travelling from home (Wrexham)... ..mind you, a home game at Eirias Park is 96 miles for me! 3
sam4731 Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 How did certain teams avoid the 1st preliminary round? Was it just (pardon the pun) luck of the draw?

Eddie Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 Good to see Cornwall being allowed to enter this year.
Griff Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 Thursday 14 December - still using last year's calendar at the RFL. "We'll sell you a seat .... but you'll only need the edge of it!"

Barley Mow Posted January 22 Author Posted January 22 Draw for the 1st round proper to take place at Boundary Park as part of the Championship/L1 season launch tomorrow afternoon. The four L1 teams who will remain after the preliminary rounds (yet to be played) will join 12 Championship teams in the draw - Toulouse deciding not to enter. It doesn't seem that it's being broadcast anywhere. 1

Go all out like Wakefield did, win the league and 1895 cup and get all the bonus points to give you the best shot of going up above a flailing Super League team (such as Salford). Assuming too that you'd also have far too much for the Championship with no single outstanding side in it like Leigh, Wakey or Toronto have been in recent years. 1

Toulouse are unlikely to have "far too much for the Championship". They're a solid top 4 Championship team these days, and top 2 contenders, but not close to the level they were 3 or 4 years ago. If there is an outstanding team in the Championship this year it's likely to be Bradford. 1 "I won’t engage in a debate because the above is correct and if anything else is stated to the contrary it’s incorrect."

Isn’t part of the problem that they either have to play every match away or the other clubs complain about the travelling to France 3
Bull Mania Posted January 22 Posted January 22 3 hours ago, LeeF said: Isn’t part of the problem that they either have to play every match away or the other clubs complain about the travelling to France I thought it was because Toulouse weren't members therefore couldn't enter the Challenge Cup, hence couldn't enter the 1895 comp. It's benefitted them not being in the cup previously as they could just concentrate on the league and play significantly less games than their rivals. Think they played two months worth less games than Sheffield last year. 2

As far as I'm aware they have always been invited to play in the Challenge Cup as are plenty of BARLA teams which aren't members of the RFL. The sticking point was when the RFL asked TO to pay a half million pound bond in case they reached the final which they were obviously not willing to pay. 1

I can’t imagine a trip to Workington to play a cup game in front of 300 people is much of a draw to Toulouse, it would cost them £50k. Then if they got to the final people would moan that they took no fans.

IMG points Eddie, could be that gaining those points for winning the 1895 could be money well spent for the future of Toulouse Olympic.

It’s a gamble isn’t it, spend a load of money on away trips to tiny games and get no points, or win it (at great expense) and get points.
groundhopper Posted January 23 Posted January 23 I have kept out of the IMG debate so far but if the only reason to play in a competition is to pick up IMG points, we are in an even worse mess than we thought. Worryingly this could however be true. Maybe AI could predict the results and we wouldnt have to play the games. 2

If they want to be in Super League, these are the things a club should be doing on field in this system - it's not all off field
