Huddersfield Town becoming a Championship/Premiership team after a long time lower down have anything to do with it?

Yes i think so and the fact there was a hate campaign against Ken Davy by the HTFC supporters association over the share issue created a massive rift between the fan bases and the football fans were brainwashed into not supporting Ken or the Giants.

Also both clubs would put vouchers in the others season tickets to go and watch for £5, that stopped once the new guy (Hoyle) took over Town so a lot who probably used them obviously stopped coming too.

But the point is you DID get people to attend, why they didn't feel like returning is a separate issue.(And on field success is just a factor in that, not the only one) Maybe the club could have worked on that instead of thinking it was as inevitable as the rain. I don't know but I do know that people did attend in reasonable numbers at one point, which is what you were saying couldn't happen.

My theory here is we've lost approx 3-3,500 fans in that time, a lot of them were probably families with 2/3 generations in them, the younger ones have grown up and lost the bug and not returned, my own boys are perfect examples, all were season ticket holders and away fans in their youth but now 2 of them haven't been for years and the youngest comes to maybe 1 or 2 games a year at most.

I know of lots of these kids from back then who are now grown up and have families who have absolutely zero interest in the club or sport, ideally we would like them and their kids to continue supporting but it just doesn't seem to happen here.

People who were enticed by cheap season tickets again no longer have any interest even though the prices are still very competitive.

You also have to factor in the away support back then too, Bradford, Leeds, Hull, Castleford, Wigan, Warrington and St Helens all brought travelling support in the low thousands then, now most are down to the high hundreds instead.

I'd say at least 1,000-1,500 of our 'lost' fans will be away fans (based on average attendance at season end).

Well whatever the whys and wherefores (and what you say makes sense) I hope you manage to get a few more onboard.

I do wonder how many of those younger folks who have now grown up and not going are because they have moved away from the town they grew up in altogether. That is definitely what has happened to my mates. We all grew up with season tickets and now only one of us is still in the same place.

People are way more mobile than they were just the generation before. The brain drain to the South/big cities is a massive thing.

Looks like Ricky has ricked off. The forum must have assuaged his concerns 😀

I think this is increasingly a problem for RL in England. We're a sport that mostly depends on people who were exposed to it by growing up in one of about 25 places. In probably all of those places (except Leeds), half of those people will move away to university and not come back, and unless they end up in Leeds or Manchester, they're mostly lost to the game.

I'm pretty sure you could live your whole life in Manchester without being really aware of rugby league. Other than maybe knowing the name of the sport perhaps.

Nah. People are aware. Just like I'm aware of not all.

People like to slag RL on this front, but I'm prepared to bet more can name an SL team rather than a netball team.

I expect awareness is favourable to RU top leagues in many instances. I think outside of football, awareness is really in the localities.

You can at least get to a game though.

Unfortunately not. Any pub in the whole of Yorkshire (or England probably) is usually chock full of people supporting Liverpool or Man Utd etc. Or at least, watching it.
I got your jibe though, it's just something I don't care about.

I didn't imply nobody in Manchester had heard of RL, Wigan RL will probably have provided that over the years. I was reacting to the point that if people go to live in Manchester they will re engage with RL, as if it's a part of Manc life.
And I'm talking about the Gt Manc area too. For example, I know at least one (or knew). I used to work with a guy from Ashton under Lyne, which is a big stones throw from Oldham, who genuinely had no knowledge of RL. To be fair, he was a real geeky type guy, not into sport who had probably only heard of Man Utd or Liverpool. He knew rugby was a game but that's it.

So.

This is nothing to do with ticket availability, this is about the website offering as good as no information to anyone who doesn't already know about the experience of going to a game at the Huddersfield ground.

An increase in ticket sales means selling tickets to people you haven't sold tickets to before. Why not make life a little bit easier for those considering giving you money?

In 2024 Huddersfield had the second lowest average home gate in the Super League. The lowest was London Broncos. They've since been relegated, and replaced with Wakefield. Wakefields average home gate (in the Championship) was higher than Huddersfields to a meaningful degree, so Huddersfield are on track to have the lowest average home gate in 2025. Do they just not care about ticket sales?

Remind us what Wakefield Trinity's average attendance was in 2023 when they were a bottom end SL club?

4319, yes the capacity was limited and affected a few games but most games weren't affected. And Trinity also managed to achieve the lowest SL crowd of the season.

And that was after 25 consecutive years in SL.

Anyway @ricky are you going to tell us what it is you were so annoyed about not being able to find?

He can’t get tickets for the Salford game in September yet.

Of course they can.

So.

RL presence in Manchester, even large parts of Greater Manchester, is truly minuscule.  Honestly.
