Bit of fun.

Pick 4 players that you have seen play for the lions that would guarantee promotion if they could play this season.

1. Danny Wilson _ whatever kind of man he was when he pulled on that jersey he was a genius.

2. Les Holiday - worth his weight in gold.  Ball playing creator.  Leader of men.  Captain fantastic.

3. Joe Grima - tough as teak kiwi - never took a backward step.

4. Green Vigo - bit of one from left field.  But at his pomp and when he had his head right , nearly unstoppable

Honorable mentions for

Martin Lee

Paul And John Mellor

Derek Bate

Scott Ranson

Paddy Tuimavave

I think I'd pretty much pick the same

I'd have Bate over Vigo

Bate was the best winger I've seen for us

I'd add John Allen

Wayne English

Kevin penny

Sean Casey

Yeah not far off that, think mine would be

Les Holiday - ala God, best player I have seen play with the Lions

Ian Watson - Mr Consistent and ordered his pack around

Joe Grima - Agree with you, could punch holes in the defense which is soemthing we have been lacking

Matty Ashton - imagine how many tries he would score from full back or winger at that division

Old father time here - I would add Kevin Whittle who could play any position in the forwards - remember him beating Hull at Hull on his own he switched to hooker and Hull never won a scrum. I think had he been a little bigger,  half a yard faster and of course played for Wigan or Saints he would have played for England - he was my boy hood hero 🙂

I remember the lions beating widnes at station road in the 1st division under Jim Crellin cant rember what year

Danny Wilson played Tony Myler off the park in the 1st half and they moved Joe Lydon to stand off in 2nd half and he did the same to him.

I remember him in that game being behind the posts for a restart and catching a ball full length like a goal keeper the ball must have been 6 feet off the ground , bringing the ball in and like a ballet dancer dancing to the 25 yard line.

I thought the man was a god and without doubt the best player i ever saw in a lions jersey.

I still remember some Swinton fans moaning about him.

If only.....

Going back over the years there are too many great players to choose from, particularly during the 1960s. So here are four more recent players that didn't reach those heights but would certainly help get Swinton out of League 1 :

Mike Morrison, Martin Moana, Richie Hawkyard and Marlon Billy.

I was lucky enough to catch the tail end of the great sixties side, and was lucky enough to see Gowers, Buckley, Daz Davies and Dave Robinson, so they'd be a shoo in.

Since then as others have said Les was the best player I've seen, and Danny on his day was nigh on unplayable.

A couple of other names for you, if Paul Mellor had stayed fit he would have been a superstar and  Les Bolton and Tony Peters at their best would have hauled us out of this division.
