Because it's not a valid comparison.

It's not? Why is that?

You're implying that Darts takes advantage of a time when there is no Strictly/I'm a Celeb/BGT etc and thus gets good viewing figures.

Well all those things apply in February when the SL starts but it doesn't get similar viewing figures. So why not? Let's not forget, RL is apparently the bigger thing to begin with, so it should be a gimme.

Or maybe the world doesn't work like a handful of people on here seem to insist?

NB I understand that saying this renders all my years watching RL irrelevant but there it is.

Been watching darts first and second round games.

If RL was that bad nobody would watch it.

Really? The two sudden death legs last night were tremendous entertainment, if more RL (or other sport) matches were like that the interest would be phenomenal.

Due to the nature of Darts an even enough match up often generates various momentum shifts throughout the game. It can be very entertaining and is made for TV.

Always nice to be reminded I'm an outsider to the sport in .... *checks title*

RL at the darts.

I was replying to the posters, hence the quote, you do know this works? You’re more than welcome to our sport, new support always is. However that doesn’t mean the bulk of Northerners have to change there culture in order to gain more fans.

Thanks? I didn't realise I had to ask permission if I wasn't born in the North.

No one has told any Northerners that they have to change their culture, what are you talking about?

Yeah, you are right. Who knows where I got the idea of being a guest in this "northern game for northern people" shtick.

It's a bit like being a true Cockney, being born within the sound of the Bow Bells, which btw I am.

Perhaps you have to be born within the sound of lorries rumbling along the M62 to be regarded as a true RL fan?!

You have to have been conceived round the back of a Labour club.

What exactly is 'Northern Culture'? And where does the North begin? I'm in the Midlands. We play a lot of RL here, in fact the history of RL in the Midlands is over 100 years old. How will a club in the Midlands impact on Northern Culture?

Well said - I was wondering that too.  I came to the conclusion that folk in the south are whingers who enjoy playing the victim.

If you have to ask, then  etc...etc...😀

Its defined by the isochip, a line which connects points of equal cultural shoulder-chip.

There is also the isoeebygum, which connects points of equal obscure patois

There is also the rather complex isograde, a line that connects points of equal gradings.....

Yeah, well your opinion is always well received Griff.

One day you may make a post on here that isn't just you trying to get attention by being contrary to everyone else.

.... said one of the biggest attention-seekers on the forum.

I don't mind folk from outside the traditional area watching matches or playing the game or starting their own clubs.

Equally, I don't mind if they don't do any of those things.

You can't make people see sense.  It's a free country.

The North begins at the River Tees.

The West is Lancashire.

The South is Cheshire, Derbyshire, Notts, Lincolnshire and beyond.

The centre of the universe is Yorkshire.

Again I was responding to a specify comment from one poster. You don’t have to be a northerner, I never said you did. However the bulk of the support is northern and with that comes a northern bias.

I see no reason why that needs removing as if it were some silver bullet to greater national recognition. Quite the opposite imho, as I believe the more homely nature of RL will become its major selling point.

Whenever the nation goes through a genuine slump and it really is now, flash becomes less attractive.

Oh don’t be ridiculous.

The north in the case of RL is geographically obvious, the M62 corridor. I think it’s hard to be more ‘Northern’ than that.

As for northern culture, if you don’t think there is one then you need to get in your car and head up the M6 onto the M62.

Though not as unique as it once was it’s still strong and distinct. The homogenisation of British culture is far from complete.

I also find your attitude somewhat pedant. I doubt you’d question the existence of a Scottish culture or a Cornish one, yet you can’t accept a Northern one, odd.

A club from the midlands would make the same impact on the northern game as London did, and that is zero.

Like it or not the power of the game lies in the heartland. I know RL revisionists hate that but most people hate the truth. All the SL clubs bar one are heartland clubs and the reason they take up all 11 places is because they are the only viable options. Even the 12th club is a in its own way a heartland club.

I don’t care who plays RL, the game belongs to all. But it’s leading edge and it’s power base is northern and there is no arguing with that.

I want northern RL fans to stop clinging onto this ludicrous expansion nonsense that in forty years has yielded zero results.

I want them instead to turn their energies inwards and rebuild what we already have. Make that work and then we can expand, because people are always attracted to success.

If that happens, then your little West Midlands club might stand a chance because it would be in a strong sport. I wouldn’t mind but the role model is already there, it’s called the NRL. A competition that only forty years ago was far more parochial than the RFL ever was.

On the terms that you've just dribbled, RL is Australian.
