In the fields that these owners made their money in, they wouldn't dream of making an acquisition or entering new market without a ton of research and having the right people in place. That's why they're successful. It's frustrating that for some this all goes out of the window when they make the laudable, but I guess for some emotional, foray into rugby league. It's their business acumen as much as hard cash that we need.

Extraordinary arrogance towards a group of people who are digging deeply into their own pockets to keep their clubs alive.

In fact many club owners are quite recent arrivals and don't have the knowledge that you seem to believe they should have.

As Toby says above Martyn, if we are happy to apportion a club owner’s lack of understanding of SLs decades long struggles to the recency of their position in the sport, then we really should be questioning their lack of due diligence which led to the purchase.

Similar to @Damien and @M j M, I think you are letting these gentlemen off the hook too easily for their ignorance.

However, I do look forward to learning who the MD was and if it does lead to change, then my congratulations go to you.

I'm not quite sure what an article has to do in order to be "groundbreaking", but I suggest that very few articles written by anyone than Einstein-like figures would qualify.

I’m sorry Martin, but I find this a terrible cop out. You are a professional journalist specialising in RL which gives you the access to governors, owners and administrators most people on this forum will not have access to, so yes there is a level of “groundbreaking” which I would expect from your writing, mainly from the valuable insight your position and relationships should allow you.

We don’t need Einstein-esque groundbreaking articles, just some rare insight and scrutiny coupled with our media having the balls on occassion to challenge the rhetorical responses of our governors and leaders is what most would be satisfied with. The trade media holds a very important role to keep these individuals accountable.

I would love to see you hold them accountable in the same manner as which you so often and admirably (sincerely) make yourself accountable to a challenging public on this forum.
