Chuffed for Andrea in particular as she was a top player for many years including captaincy and then moving on to promoting the various areas of the game.

Not much of a fan of the honours system but that's a good haul for rugby league and nice to see different levels of the game getting recognition.

Nice to see rugby league getting a good haul. Tony Martin is a very good shout, been quietly running the line for decades.

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

Can't believe Kevin Sinfield gets no recognition for his ongoing fundraising. He is a far more deserving person than the hundreds of time serving functionaries who seem to populate the lists ( no criticism of the four RL people honoured)

He's a CBE isn't he, one of the very highest honours. He got that honour at last year's NY honours so hard to argue he has been ignored.

Sadly, I think that a recipient of an honour one year, cannot be awarded another within a set time limit. I'll stand corrected if anyone knows differently. Let's hope he's awarded the knighthood he thoroughly deserves in the King's birthday honours list.

Copilot says, "There isn't a strict "three-year rule" for receiving a second UK honour. However, the honours system aims to ensure that awards are distributed fairly and to a wide range of individuals. This means that while it's possible to receive multiple honours, they are typically spaced out to recognize different achievements or services over time."

Then again, we don't know if Sinfield was nominated for a Knighthood, nor if he was offered one but turned it down.

Hadn't realised it was only last year that he was awarded the CBE. I'm not actually a fan of the honours system at all but it just seems ridiculous when you see some of the honours handed out to people who have just been doing their job, whereas Sinfield has gone above and beyond to raise money for a very worthy cause and show the meaning of true friendship.

His CBE was already an upgrade from his OBE which was itself an upgrade from the MBE he had.

In my opinion, this thread is just about the welcome recognition of people behind the scenes within our sport. I include Ken Davy in that because outside RL and Huddersfield, he has no profile.

He can't have a medal every year.

Them's the rules.

He might well be right but I think it applies across a range of sports. We shouldn’t get too paranoid about it.

For example, only one boxer (Henry Cooper) has ever been knighted despite it being a global sport and GB having had some brilliant world champions.

As ever I stand to be corrected, John M, but I don't think anybody can propose a particular honour, so you couldn't  nominate someone for a knighthood.  You can put forward somebody to be given an honour and a committee will consider the merits of your suggestion and, if they broadly agree, propose the category or class of honour.  In the Sinfield case, I suppose you could propose a revisiting of the class of honour, with the implication being that only a knighthood is left.

As I recall, there is more than one honours committee, with each concentrating on certain areas.  If that recollection is correct, then all the sporting proposals would probably go to the same committee.

It is easy to suppose this is all very secretive, and I wouldn't dispute the possibility of a bit of 'establushment' bias.  However, public appointments are not necessarily all done in a 'hush hush' way.  I think vacancies on the honours committees, as and when they occur, would be on this website, which is always an interesting read:

Search and apply – Apply for a public appointment – GOV.UK

Incidentally, hurry if you want to be the chair of UK Sport and trouser £40k p.a. for working two days a week.  You have until 7th January to get your application in!

Happy new year to one and all on here - regardless of whether I usually agree with you or not!

Why? It give out game good coverage.

In your opinion what is the best National newspaper for Rugby League coverage?

The Guardian I think, though I don’t like it as a newspaper.

That's fair enough as we all have our preferences, but if any National newspaper is giving us positive or not negative Rugby League league news we should just ignore the politics of that Newspaper.

My newspaper of choice is the Daily Mirror as I enjoy it's Rugby League coverage and agree with it's politics most, but not all the time.

You don't like The Sun.

I don't like the Mirror.

Quite so. I post this every year: Nominate someone for an honour or award: Overview - GOV.UK

Initially, there's no tick box to choose which award you are nominating someone for. Not sure if there is a choice further down the process since it appears that you actually have to start the process at some point.

Maybe we could try to nomonate one of the mods and see what happens. 👍....😀

I do worry slightly that, scanning the socials yesterday, Sinfield has become a sort of totem for crackpots whose actually agenda is to express how much they hate Sadiq Khan while dogwhistling an even darker motive. Given the values Kevin has compared to the likes of Joey Barton and Lee Anderson who were trumpeting him yesterday, I hope he manages to shake it off.
