LeytherRob Posted February 20 Posted February 20 Leigh look set to beat last season's opening crowd (also against Hudds) of 8580. Hopefully should get above 9k with a few days to go plus walkups on the day. 6

Great presentation generally being rewarded with good crowds. I'd love it if these translated into big event crowdsnin the Cup and at Magic. Hopefully the three Ashes tests (if they happen) will be the icing on the cake. I’m making myself unpopular at home by holding off on arranging a holiday until I know when/where those matches are. 5

It's not impossible to get around - Gillingham FC seem to have had a "temporary" stand up at one end since the late 90s and most of the stands at Silverstone are "temporary". But I suspect there becomes a point where the cost of maintaining a lot of scaffolding becomes more hassle than it's worth. Blackpool & Bournemouth put up temporary stands & both still being used.

Archie Gordon Posted February 20 Posted February 20 It's tremendous that we now have 2 SL clubs who might put the 'Sold Out' sign up for almost every game. Also love the fact that these grounds have grown organically - modern all-seaters have their place but so too do Craven Park, Belle Vue, Wheldon Road. There is something special about a packed terrace. 4
MZH Posted February 20 Posted February 20 14,000 now sold for Hull FC v Wigan. With 24 hours to go and a few hopefully deciding last minute it would be nice to get 15,000+ I just hope we can back up the Catalans game by at least being competitive again.

Really good test of the new culture Cartwright will be installing. Wigan are a machine, but they are possible to constrain through very diligent, relentless hard work in defence. Hard to call a Hull win, but you don't need to beat Wigan in order to have a far better season, you just need to show the sort of spirit, effort and more mature decision-making that was lacking last year. I expect a lot of fans will come away happy from this match in defeat, as long as they see that difference. 2
sweaty craiq Posted February 20 Posted February 20 (edited) Well done Wakey, now lets hope the Salford fans back their club. If we can average over 10k with the fixtures we have this week it would be brilliant Edited February 20 by sweaty craiq

I expect a lot of fans will come away happy from this match in defeat, as long as they see that difference. And I think we will get that. They made all the right noises in pre season about fitness and effort and accountability and I thought the Catalans game backed that up. Yes it was just one game but they simply couldn't have put in that sort of performance last year. They have clearly been putting the hard yards in and the coaches look to have them extremely well organised in defence. I think we can keep Wigan to a modest points total. The question is do we have the quality with the ball to pose enough problems to the best defence in SL. Possibly in the world. If we compete hard for 80 minutes though I'm sure most of that crowd will go away happy.

It was I think and there was temporary terracing that day , where new temporary terracing is now , in front of flats , but it will depend on the work they've done to North Stand and any extra capacity that has brought . Either way a good effort from Wakey . Edited February 20 by Taffy Tiger

Damien Posted February 20 Author Posted February 20 (edited) I'd have thought Belle Vue would hold over 9k at least. Their highest SL crowd was 10,031 in 2013 and surely it holds more than it did then (or at least now far off it with any more stringent safety rules in place). Edited February 20 by Damien

Worzel Posted February 20 Posted February 20 5 minutes ago, back in the day said: Awesome. all away fans tickets sold out too? We only had standing tickets in mixed areas, and took them off sale at noon, so if Wakey are announcing a sell out then any we had left must have been sold by them. Hull KR had sold just shy of 1,500 at the last count.

Was thinking the same, the whole presentation is better … ‘something’ seems to forcing clubs to present their grounds and themselves better, the social content is stronger and the TV presentation has had a revamp - and the crowds are growing. It’s starting to look like a modern sport at SL level. sweaty craiq Posted February 20 Posted February 20 Just Salford and Hudds to sort now. Hopefully Salford crowds can reach potential but feel Hudds need to be replaced by Bradford 1 1

I'm assuming there is some growth in capacity that will occur during the season as the stadium is fully completed. I've got Wakefield averaging 8,172 in the 2012 season in what was an outlier. I'd say a 5k average would be about right in recent decades. Actually, I don't know why I'm guessing.
