Considering they averaged 4,646 last season and their highest gate was 6,177 I’d say getting 7,500 this weekend was extraordinary for them.

First home game of '25, vs Leeds, last home game @ 10k+, extraordinary build up. If they don't smash 6177 I'm not sure they have an excuse.

They had one home attendance in SL last season below 3000 and three more below 3500. The only times they get over 6000 was against Wigan or Leigh, the next highest attendances being against St. Helens and Warrington, all fixtures where you'd expect a four-figure number of away fans. I'd be pleasantly surprised if they top 5000 tomorrow. 2

What’s the problem, they’re a very well known local band, albeit 30 years past their sell by date. Maybe the Smiths will reunite for the Huddersfield game in March. 1 2

Not to everyone's taste, though. It seems some people think Salford should be concentrating on the rugby, and not worrying about stuff like trying to attract new fans... Anyway, I do hope expectations of 6k+ or even 8k turn out to be correct. Pretty much all of SRD's problems stem from the fanbase being so small. 2

But I do think they should given the tailwind built up before this game. If, after all this fuss, their latent fans still just shrug their shoulders and leave it to the usual 3.5k to show up, that's a bad sign.

Man Utd on tv at 12.30 also, they could open the bars early and get people in before the match.
langpark Posted February 21 Posted February 21 Oldham clearly disappointed with the turnout at their first match. Hopefully a few more turn up this weekend. 2
Josef K Posted February 21 Posted February 21 Will the gates be shut after the Happy Mondays have finished, so then all of the public have to stay and watch the RL. 1

They can’t keep giving tickets away or selling them cheap also

They never got any money from it either because it was a cover, even though it was a really radical reworking. Mind you, probably didn't deserve it because I reckon Paul Oakenfold most wrote of the music on that and the rest of the album, much like Weatherall did with Screamadelica around the same time. To be fair though Shaun still puts on a good gig, at least in the smaller indoor venues. Not sure about a half-empty rugby ground! 2

I'm sure his dad or grandad was a Salford die hard remember reading from his book.
