langpark Posted February 4 Posted February 4 (edited) Great news, even if it does look like it was written by an 8 year-old. Edited February 4 by langpark 1

I have a feeling the media person at York is a young un’ who as a general rule I find just post without checking and certainly don’t tend to read/edit what they’ve just posted. It’s creeping into the BBC too, some really shoddy errors. I actually read the above release in a Borat voice. Anyway it’s good news and should be a York Knights record attendance. The current record is 4281, though I doubt it will be a record Rugby League attendance there (7139 for the Women’s Rugby League World Cup). 2

Is that their record attendance ever, or just the new ground? Surely they got more at Clarence Street back in the day?

That’s the record attendance for York Knights (set at previous ground Bootham Crescent). The record Knights crowd at the new stadium is exactly 4000. Both those records against Bradford. And yes I believe they sometimes posted 7-8000 crowds at Clarence Street, I’m sure someone who followed the club back then could confirm. 1

I always see Phoenix clubs as the same club as the original but see what you mean. Having looked it up the old club’s record was over 14k against Swinton in the challenge cup (imagine that now!).

You beat us 14-12 . Steadman (then at York) was outstanding . Can't believe it was 40 years ago . Ground was packed that day . Edited February 5 by Taffy Tiger 2

Coggo Posted February 5 Posted February 5 16k. Wow! That’s massive!! But despite that, this person’s attendance is possibly more interesting. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/othersports/article-14363125/amp/Viva-Las-Wigan-Boxing-Michael-Buffer-USA-MARRY-Valentines-Day-Super-League-Warriors-Warrington-Wolves-Sin-City.html https://wiganwarriors.com/blog/2025/02/05/michael-buffer-to-visit-the-brick-community-stadium/

Snowys Backside Posted February 6 Posted February 6 Just under 17k sold i believe and anything around 20k for a Thursday Night is tremendous. Makes you wonder what it would be if it was A Friday Night or a Weekend ? 2
