Sizeable away following too. Doesn’t seem long since that game would have had 12k in.

Always disappointing to see our crowds underwhelm, but I would say a clash between 9th and 5th on bad runs for the third game in 6 weeks on a Thursday night it was ok. Broadly in line with recent years.

Yes definitely it’s ‘ok’ given the circumstances but there was a time not too long ago when Wire seemed to be at the forefront of selling games;  (admittedly from afar) I don’t see that now.

I think we've been pretty lacklustre for a few years tbh Eddie. We appear to be pretty comfortable with 10k crowds for minimal effort/cost.

I doubt that Claire Harris and Neil Dowson are pretty comfortable with that.

Not certain it was a particularly sizeable away following - not a criticism of Saints as Thursday nights are a pain. A disappointing crowd for sure but when you play a team for the third time in a month on a Thursday you've got all the ingredients for a low one.

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

Agreed Thursday nights are a pain, but if we are to have them then neighbouring clubs is the way to go, anyway Wire have only 2 this season, Leigh have 7 and the next one is Hull FC at home, who thinks these things up?

Around 2,200 tickets left on sale for Headingley tonight according to the Rhinos' ticket website, plus whatever is unsold from Hull KR's allocation.

I'm wary of reading too much into the availability figures but on the face of it that would suggest a 17,000 crowd.

That is one logical response.

Another is that if Thursdays are going to be less good than other days, you want to maximise your wins by having those close fixtures on good attendance days, and have the worst attended games (such as those with the biggest distances) on those Thursdays.

Now we could say that none of the distances in our game are actually that prohibitive, but this matter is all relative I suppose.

It's not necessarily the distance Tommy that is no problem with weekend fixtures it is adhering to the 8.00pm kick offs when traversing the car park that is the M62, probably meaning finishing work early and and getting back home very late, also probably prohibiting kids with a school day next day. So why will people bother with the hastle when all games are on TV, if people do not have that functionality themselves I am sure they can find a local pub or club who will welcome them in.

But why not apportion them equally with the 12 clubs sorry 11 clubs I don't think they apply to Les Cats and there are teams with 7 and 6 and if I am remembering correct Leeds have 5 Thursday's, whilst other clubs have 1 or 2 Thursday fixtures.

How dare you suggest hkr have unsold tickets!! They'll probably make up half of that 17000.

In seriousness,  be interesting to see how many Rovers do take (I'm going), with two Hull games, this, Magic next weekend, semi week after. Imagine a few might give this a miss.

I think a fairer distribution, certainly of home Thursday games, is a fair point. From my own side, Leeds went through a spate of Thursday nights in 2023 iirc?

There is an argument that whilst lower, Thursday crowds aren't that bad, and that if TV audiences are increased simultaneously then that is on the whole a good thing. Its also good to have SL on Thursdays on TV in local pubs - a healthy sign for the competition.

Again to your first point though, perhaps the argument should be to have the lower attended fixtures on those Thursdays then? I think anyone will make any excuses they can to not attend, indeed many of the same are made for Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays too.

So what about clubs edging around the 7500 attendance average mark which cumativly adds up to IMG points, Leigh and Cas could both be affected, well moreso Cas than Leigh this season, could be penalised for something out of their control.

Then they should market those games more, it isn't completely out of their control.

Sigh...

The line has to be drawn somewhere. If they feel that strongly I'm sure they could appeal or you know, have tried to change this prior?

So more expense for those clubs unlucky enough to have multiple Thursday games were reduced numbers of expected away fans would be in attendance?

If your just making 7.5k is dependent on variations of (relatively tiny) numbers of away fans then you're nowhere near really.

Well yes - That is the job of a home side, to market their matches to try and bring more people in.

We're going to around and around with this RE: home to away fans and relying on them rather than a home team actually doing their job on the marketing side.

Looked and sounded good on TV. When Sky provided the pictures obviously.

627 at Sheffield.  Terribly low, but at least they still publish their figures.

Gledhill wrote on twitter that Oldham broke their attendance record, without actually saying how many were there...
