Surprised more is not being made of the West Hull crowd (despite the few hundred that got in free), the crowd must have been pushing 4.5k. What is the record for an Amateur team home fixture?

If Hull FC get their act together, the city of Hull could really drive the sport forward this side of the Pennines.

Was much higher than that by the sounds of it and looking at the pictures

Attendance at Headingley 1,310. Poor. I don't feel Leeds put any real effort into promoting this and the decision to play on Saturday at midday, whatever the reasons, was unhelpful.

One of the lowest crowds ever for a Leeds game at Headingley, even if they were the away side yesterday, only one I can find lower was the 1912 game vs Australia.

Leeds fans have evidently never been interested in watching their club play plucky expansion teams with ridiculous accents.

Surely we are now going to get a 20k+ crowd to start off the season. I can't wait:

This game could soon be reaching capacity. As they are not using allocated seats capacity will probably be restricted to around 22,000.

All joking now aside - 22k is my guess, if not more. Which will really kick start the season. Hope the gap is below 24 but we will sorely miss Mulhern Ipape and Charnley

What are allocated seats? Whatever they are I hope they’ve behind the TV cameras or there’ll be some aneurysms on this forum.

What are allocated seats?

Allocated seating means you have to sit in the seat allocated on your ticket, unallocated means you can choose any free seat in the stand you are in apart from those held by season ticket holders.

With unallocated seating you need fewer stewards but the cost of that is around a 10% reduction in capacity.

The Green Guide (guide to safety in sports grounds) recommends that the safe capacity of seated areas does not automatically correspond to the number of actual seats provided: the capacity should instead be set at a number which the stewards can safely manage.

Leigh have had more delivered today, 22k is very much on

Why would they have more delivered, still only behind the sticks and that was all there’s anyhow 🤔

I think a section of the East Stand at the North (away) End has been held back.

No point giving us 4500 tickets and only selling 2500 was there, so they get released in batches thus reducing walk ups

Ancient history now and with hindsight and all that but you do have to wonder where a merged Cumbria team would be now?

Wouldn't be anywhere. You'd just kill three clubs and create one club that nobody wants.

The Cumbria logistics just don't work for a merged side.

Coming 4th after South Lancashire, Hull United and Leeds-Bradford Airport?

To be fair to Wigan, they have almost sold out their available 3 stands.

The rest is only Leigh to fill the away end but irrespective, any crowd over 20k on a Thursday Night is a great way to start the season.

Looks like it should be a great start to the season. I do think for RD1 we should try and start on a Friday or even Saturday night for a big kick off. Thursday feels tucked away a bit and low key. But fair play to Wigan, looks like they make it an event.

Maybe because we don't often treat them as big games?

Granted the local derby nature of this game undoubtedly helps. I've also always thought that the RFL should work with/put pressure on Sky to make Thursday night games more local in nature, i.e 2 teams from East or West of the Pennines playing each other, rather than Wigan playing Hull.

Ultimately though other sports make these matches work, and things like Monday night football were a core part of the Premier League for years, and we should in RL too.

It’s fairly easy to make things work when  you sit on £100m’s central funding and the biggest comp in the world. Fan enjoyment/experience is low on agendas.

Record crowds at Midlands, Crusaders, and York. Highest for years at Whitehaven and Workington, probably over 4,000 for West Hull. So why are there now suggestions of delaying the entry of Superleague clubs to the next round? This is why- Superleague clubs want to have some league games behind them so they  are match fit.

But the Superleague teams drawn against sides below them should still cede home advantage. Pathetic crowds at Leeds (1,310 at Leeds and 2,032 at Wakefield against over 4,000 at West Hull) prove my point.

I don’t think it should be changed.

Agreed, it’s worked very well if the objective is to boost interest in and attendances at lower league clubs - which is a great objective - as well as giving some fringe SL players a competitive run out. Also with only one SL club out it hasn’t hindered CC prospects for 11/12 of them.

Hull Daily Mail reckons 5,500 at West Hull-Saints.
