It’s Wembley though, the attraction of that can’t be underestimated. An annual trip to Anfield or Man City would have nowhere near the appeal.

Right. There's a bleedin' rugby league statue sat outside it.

RFL won't bin it to host CC final at Etihad. That would be mental.

Wembley is simply too expensive for RL's occasion fans to fill. Train £120 return, £50 a decent ticket, food/drinks £50min - so a family of 4 costs about £900 via train and about £700 on a coach. Drive and its £42.50 parking, £50 fuel, £12.50 ULEZ but a long day if you dont stop over - and hotels are wow£. Its the annual event types we are missing these days

Why would people who don’t go to London go to Edinburgh? Also cc final attendances aren’t declining much.

Change of scenery, less distance to travel, cheaper and it’s not London.

define “aren’t declining much”?

Less distance to travel?

Of the locations of our pro-RL clubs, only York, Barrow, Workington, Whitehaven and Newcastle are closer to Edinburgh than Wembley. All of the others (including the clubs most likely to make the CC final) are closer to Wembley.

Yet for all that, the 3 games on finals day will probably attract a similar number, if not higher, than a full round of SL fixtures at St James’.

Maybe there should be more onus on RLCom to sell more to people in and around London?

I did say “maybe even Edinburgh” meaning Manchester, Liverpool and Newcastle would be the preferred destinations.

You did, and then answered the question "Why would people who don’t go to London go to Edinburgh?" by saying "less distance to travel".

It was that specific point I was responding to.

Fair point.

You think cup final attendances of 51k&58k aren’t signs of decline?

Not when the 51k comes first, and the 58k is then followed by an increase the following year. That is quite literally the opposite of decline.

Yes it’s a year on year increase but an overall decline when you compare it to crowds over the last decade or the modern era of the past 20 years.

Why not stick everyone on the TV facing stands , then as far as the general and casual viewers are concerned it’s full .

Simples

They essentially already do this. The first target is to sell out the lower bowl and then then they sell TV-facing ones in the upper tier with the ones opposite on the upper tier never going on sale. Same approach is being used for the First Test.

They aren’t declining much, like I said.

You’re a Union fan though aren’t you, rather than league, so you won’t know that the crowd used to count empty corporate seats but now doesn’t. As I said there hasn’t been much of a decline.

Actually semi final attendances.

Hull KR/ Catalans- 8,480

Leigh/Warrington- 11,722

A shame so many who had bought tickets for the Wire semi final didn't turn up. Apparently we'd sold 12.5k a couple of days earlier and was gonna beat the semi final record at the ground.

Why isn’t it announced as 12.5k then if that’s what was sold?

they do the same in the NRL as well.

The RFL do tend to make numbers up in advance and they usually fall short.

Aw c’mon, the Mikey Lewis fan club are off to Wembley.

HKR alone will bring at least 50k. What’s the wrong with people today 👀

What you don't get anymore are the numerous amateur club, pub and social club  "Wembley trips" in the70s, 80s & 90s there was a Wembley special train on a Friday morning from Manchester Piccadilly jam packed with such trips and many pubs and clubs ran coach trips as well.

Just got our final tickets, doesn’t look to be selling fantastically but it’s early days and the match itself has all the makings of a classic too. Hope so anyway as three of them coming have never been to a League match before.

Just got my parking for £6 at Wembley Asda, 10 minutes walk, you can book your spot in advance. Going in the car £40, £50 tickets, food mostly take own but will spend on drinks (Non alcoholic) probably £200 tops and for a family of Four between £300/400 max.

You can get good tickets for £30 along the side in the top tier as well.

Most cars are exempt, aren't they?
