21.478 so yea just short

Tbf 4,800 is a big sell by anyone’s standards, was probably about 2,600 in the end. But more fool those who stayed away because they thought we’d get stuffed!

(Oddly we took significantly more in 2005 when we lost 60-6)

Good crowd to kick off the new season:

No idea where I’d seen 21,478 rather than 21,748 but it had been a long evening!

I suppose for Oldham v York they are only expecting a mediocre crowd, given that only the one stand is open (capacity of which is 2,340).

That's slightly disappointing given the momentum around Oldham this season, in their season opener and York being a decent opponent too.

To be fair if Oldham get a 2k+ crowd in against York that’s extraordinary compared to where they were this time two years ago. I know there’s been a lot of fanfare but we need to be realistic and give it time.

I understand what you are saying, but 2k seems to be setting the bar a bit low, don't you think?

For their first home game last season (in League One mind you) they got 2,041.  I think they would be very disappointed if they got similar or less than that, especially considering they are now in a higher division and York are capable of taking a decent following too.

7k at Huddersfield is pushing it i reckon, it would need at least 2,500 Wire fans to get anywhere near 7, i believe they've sold just under 800 at the moment.

I think 5,800 - 6,000 is more realistic.

Warrington have announced 1500 away tickets sold, most we have ever sold apparently for a league game at Huddersfield.

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

Yes i saw that, surprised me though as i remember the end being quite full in the past when the whole stand was available, maybe most of them were walk-ups back then.

York usually manage a coach load when they come to Widnes.

Just because you think everyone hates you doesn't mean they don't.

Much better crowd than I expected in Perpignan. Looking like it will be a tough season for them, hopefully crowds don't drop off too quick as the season unfolds. I haven't seen a figure for Hull KR yet.

Yes fair enough I hadn’t appreciated that got 2k this time last year.

NZ Warriors pick up where they left off with a 23,344 crowd for a pre-season trial against Melbourne at Hamilton. Another unbelievable crowd.

NZ union fans make up tons of excuses as to why their teams play in half empty stadiums, only for the warriors to blow all those excuses out of the water. It's fun pulling them up on it.

That first home game last season was the local derby against Rochdale Hornets (which was also IIRC, the first game back in Oldham at Boundary Park, under the new owners). There were plenty of games last season around the 1100 mark.

I'm actually surprised as they normally bring good numbers and thought they'd sell out their allocation.

Thursday is bad for away travel, especially in Winter on a baltic night. Anyone finishing work and travelling has a nightmare journey- a big shout out to Wigans road planners here - Families ( a big part of RL ) deem it too late for kids on a school night also too cold. Away support was in region of 2500-3500 at a guess in away stand, we were in the west with others, based on a 22500 limit with unreserved seating etc. We would be happy with any SL club bringing 2500 on a Thursday btw or any day

It's 8 miles and less than 30 mins. Many Wigan fans would be travelling similar.

Kudos to anyone who braved those conditions. I've heard the road back from Wigan to Leigh is like the UK's answer to the North West Passage.

Given the choice I would choose an end as opposed to side viewing, you see much more from the ends in terms of both offense and defensive patterns and movements from both teams, granted not everyone who attends games notice these things very much.

It would be quicker to walk the North West Passage than drive the direct route from Leigh/Wigan and visa versa, much quicker time wise to double the distance and take the long way round either way by first heading north or south in an arc.

As a guide we were able to set off at 4pm got to Red Robin at 5.10 Our guests hit the roundabout at Asda and took 40 mins to reach pub not much later. BTW did Wigan have any fans, didn’t sound like it

As much as I thought our support was maybe 500 light on what I’d have hoped for, 30 mins between the dream is an absolute dream. I drove from Leigh to Wrexham on Tuesday for the Bolton game in a quicker time than I got from Leigh to Wigan on Thursday. Not even kidding.

That last line is pathetic - save that nonsense for match threads.

The vast majority of fans at the opener, both home and away, will have been coming from the same distance within the same vicinity. Just like for Wakey or Cas away for Leeds involves equal or less travel for many Rhinos fans. Your argument about times really doesn't work for this one and is pretty silly deflection.

Incredible crowd for the warriors in Hamilton especially when you consider the pathetic crowds bar cairns on Aussie soil for this season trial games.

Broncos Titans at Toowoomba was a great crowd.
