I agree about doing the “on the road” bit well but it has to be a regular occurrence to fully work. Not a one or two season wonder

Yeah you’re right. Rovers announced it as a 3 year deal, so hopefully they follow through with it (and then keep it going). Nothing wrong with creating a new tradition eh, these things can get better with time if you stick at them… but when did rugby league ever do that? 🙄😀

Not sure where Joran Schoenmaker is knocking around now but he did sign for NW Crusaders at one point but didn't play a game.

Not just heritage I believe, Netherlands born and raised.

He still plays for the Dutch national team, think he is playing in Australia somewhere and maybe elite 1 ?

I've given this about 2 minutes thought but I think Warrington have played games in US, France, Spain, Australia, NZ, England, Scotland, Wales.

Definitely played in Ireland and N. Ireland too.

50% of ticket sales so far have been to Dutch locals (I suppose that means anyone living in Netherlands) and a crowd of 2,500 is expected.  Which should generate a decent atmosphere as the venue capacity is 4000.

That would be impressive. I once saw Hammersmith Hills Hoists play a tour game against a Belgian select team. The Belgians were very, very good and surprised me. They lost by a try I think, something like 26-22 and there would have been a thousand locals watching that. One of my great RL memories in Europe.

Also this....  I was hoping to see JWH there.

Looks like he is actually in Amsterdam. Presumably don't want to risk him picking up a lengthy ban off a pre-season friendly 🙂

Hopefully Leyland gets a run out - He has so much potential, such a huge shame he had to sit out last year through injury in our SL season.

Not sure why you leave out the entire first team..?

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

You're in luck!

Sorry, I meant I was hoping to see him named in the team. Because I had seen that he was going to be in Amsterdam.

These are union teams aren't they?  What's the relationship like between the codes in the Netherlands?  I have a vague memory of Yanto posting about the usual union dirty tricks in the past.

Someone like Yanto could better comment on that, but as I understand it, things are pretty civil. These visits have been to RU clubs and British schools.

I think the fact that RU and RL seasons do not overlap is the reason they seemingly co-exist quite well. And a lot (perhaps majority) of Dutch RL boys play both codes.

Great article in the Yorkshire Post highlighting all the good work being done to establish the sport in the Netherlands. The Super League idea might be a pipe dream, but they're doing real work to establish local competitive games and clubs and that's great to see. If having a big long term goal helps that, all power to their elbow eh?

It would require Toronto levels of money from an investor but it wouldn't be impossible. Not nearly as many logistical roadblocks as Toronto had.

For anyone interested. Dutch Origin starts at 11am UK time. Live stream link below. There is a womens match and a "legends" match before that (broadcast starts at 9:30 UK time), but I believe they are shorter matches and 9 vs 9 format.
