A bit of background , Jepson has an option to buy the club from The Fultons and it has a Jan 31 deadline. He obviously hasn't the money to do it himself so was looking for fellow investors.  However this looks like a desperate ' throw of the dice' as it suggests no one is interested. If this is his best hope, good luck to the bloke.

It seems to be flavour of the month lately to claim a rich Aussie (or consortium) is interested in buying a SL club.

See:  London, Salford, and now Cas.  The internet rumour mill goes into overdrive for a few days, then it all fades, never to be spoken of again.  Skolars too, shortly before they went bust.

Even the ones that do go through don't tend to last long or end well either - see David Argyle at Toronto, Chalmers at Bradford. Ultimately to invest in a lower end SL club you need a lot of money and strong emotional ties to the club so you don't care when you don't get a penny back from your 'investment' - I don't think you get that from overseas investment which is why they tend to get bored fairly quickly and move on.

Jepson will be taking the option.  He has always talked about an investment group model moving forward to promote financial stability and sustainability.

Worse case scenario it's free publicity for Cas, in the, albeit unlikely event something nore comes of it then great.

The bile on here towards anything Cas do or any ambition shown is laughable.

I agree, smart move to get free publicity. However what really is laughable is how he expects people to swallow it.

You never know, it might appeal to someone like Crowe, Cas are the South Sydney of Super League in lots of ways. Well, similar to South Sydney as they were 25 years ago before the veneer of glamour overtook what was a really tough, working class club with a relatively small fan base (in fact Cas probably averaged larger crowds than pre-ejection Souths?)

What sort of professional sports organisation goes with a PR strategy that involves...

1. Starting some bull**** rumour about Russell Crowe, purely because you sent him an unsolicited email that probably ended in his spam folder

2. Respond to that confection with more vagueness about "lots of conversations, including international ones", when the only reason you're getting asked about it is because of point 1

3. Resulting in the media running an old quote from the last time you said something stupid on the subject “In short, the finances of all rugby league clubs are in pretty miserable shape,” Jepson said. “Without benefactors, I struggle to understand how a club can survive if I’m being truthfully honest. There are a few difficult years ahead and the situation is worse because there’s not a lot wrong with the product itself and the game, so we can’t really improve there.” dragging the entire sport down in the process yet again

I mean, for God's sake. People bang on about IMG but these idiotic bottom-feeder clubs just can't help themselves can they? Nobody cares that you're searching for investment, the only time that should be news is when you actually get some. That's the only time it is in your interests to be talking about it.

If you've not got anything positive to say, don't say anything. We're supposed to be selling the sport, not some disinterested bystander commenting on it. That's each club's job, to sell the game, in order to solve the revenue problem. All this self-pity nonsense is a recipe for absolute failure.

I don't think there is too much wrong with Cas doing this or the previous quote from Jepson TBH.

Cool. Funny how no other business does this as a marketing strategy eh?

Well, maybe not since Gerald Ratner

He's not talking down the product. The opposite in fact.

No, he is. The product is far more than what happens on the pitch. That’s the sausage, but people buy the sizzle.

Confidence, optimism, strength, progress, dynamism, popularity. Those things are attractive when people are choosing what to spend their money on. If you’re in business you don’t let people think you’re struggling if you want to persuade them to join you, or buy something from you.

This isn’t rocket science sales & marketing stuff. “Fake it before you make it”

People like honesty not BS. The Cas fans, I believe, wanted more openness and communication from the owners and he is delivering on what he promised with some headline grabbing on the Russel Crowe thing.

Castleford Tigers refuse to deny Elon Musk buy-out interest.

Representatives of Tigers said that "we are of course talking to many interested parties, from across the global business community, and we can neither confirm nor deny that negotiations with Elon Musk's X corporation are at an advanced stage."

A spokesperson for Musk said "where is Castleford?"

However, the Mayor of Castleford, speaking in the Tap n' Tackle pub, said he was close to signing a deal with SpaceX for the former Hickson's site to be developed as a launch site for the forthcoming re-settlement programme for Mars.

Mayor Jepson said he looked forward to seeing the "New Airedale" estate on the Red Planet, within the next 12 months.

In other news, the Axiom deal to build some retail units on waste land by the motorway has been put back until 2045.

Do you not see the cognitive dissonance between “…not BS” and “the Russel Crowe thing” 🤣🤣🤣

That story was pretty much “Look at that ridiculous London Broncos Brisbane rumour Martin, it’s not possible to make something even more daft up”

”Hold my beer lads…”

I make a distinction between an obvious publicity stunt and just gaslighting people about the state of the sport.
