There's a whole group of us who, for the third year in a row, are pestering our Sports product team to push out a dedicated channel for RL. This is the closest it's been so fingers crossed. If it goes through it most likely won't be up for round 1, which is a shame, but should stay up for most of the season.

Are they actively considering it?

Yes, and to be honest they were before we started lobbying for it lol. It's scheduling that's the issue - both from a sports crossover pov and where to put content that doesn't fit any of the current named channels. At the moment only Mix, + and Main Event could technically have any sports on them - obviously Main is for premium content. Mix is where 'everything else' goes (including SL that isn't on Main) and they seem keen to not have all channels named, + is the streaming channel which obvs covers SL, but various other sports too. Only the channel currently branded as NFL (also Action) has any legs and the broadcast product team knows it makes sense....but yeah scheduling isn't that straightforward, especially for an 8 month season.

For full clarity, I do work at Sky in their app development teams - we are quite separate to broadcast Sky, in an operational sense, but the product teams straddle both and that's where we've been able to make some noise/get more info about what is going on.

I’m guessing Wakefield….and I’ve never bragged about how much I get paid.  I’m bemoaning the sad fact that SL players get paid a disgraceful pittance, but I guess you knew that was my point.

You have a point? I thought you were just boasting that you get paid more than some SL players.

But the fact that you have to try to belittle people who can't afford things tells me more than I need to know about you.

I think that's superb.

Really well done and cleverly executed. There's a lot of MOSAIC research that shows a correlation between NRL and RL viewers, but this taps into that without the "merrr, you're watching soft rugby with pads and commercial" sneering, which is how this comparison sometimes gets framed. Jenna is a really good face for this sort of thing.

No boasting from me, try again.  But yes I was taking the pish out of the Yorkshire catchphrase “How much??????”.

Yep, that's what I liked. One little nod to no pads, but there were no claims about being being better or tougher or anything, it was complementing their sport nicely.

And which part of "I can't afford it" relates to your hilarious comment?

Looks as if Sky Sports SM is starting to give SL a bit of a push ahead of next week.

Love the NFL thing but not so enamoured by Warrington naming their stadium after Luke Littler. The Luke Littler tie-ins are just a bit tacky now.

It's a little naff, but I'm OK with it as it's a one off and he's there as guest of honour, it's a bit of fun to celebrate the achievements of a Wire fan.

It’s probably not going to cost much to do it, apart from a couple of signs and some corporate hosting for Luke Littler and his family. If it get a few more bums and seats then it’s done its job, if it’s get a mention in the wider media then that is a bonus.

Aye, it is just a PR piece as a one-off.

Not sure of the timing - does it also fit with the launch of the Darts Premier League?

Loving it. Isn't it great, when it's done right?

We just need to get these ads seen by all and sundry.

Have you considered Now TV? I pay £17 a month for sky sports and you can cancel any time, not bad value now the SL season is about to start, and you get plenty of NRL games too.

I have this too and enjoy the flexibility

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

Excellent. Share both ads with all our social media and WhatsApp contacts...and ask them to do the same.
