The draw for the last 16 of the FA Cup is on The One Show tomorrow on BBC 1, the CC draw could have been done too, a double up event. If someone at the RFL gets their finger out they could at least suggest it to Aunty.

Yes I'm sure the soccer people would just accept that.

Why would the FA have any say on what was before or after the FA Cup draw on the one show?

Because that’s how deals are negotiated

It's the Superbowl tonight and they usually have a big halftime show, maybe we could ask if they want to do the draw then.

Might get them a couple more viewers tuning in to find out who Bradford gets after today's upset

We should do that thing of getting someone to tell them their sport’s really boring and ours is much better and harder.

They’ll love that.

Why on earth would two consecutive cup draws make for good TV for anyone who wasn't both a rugby league and football fan...?

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

Great thread. 😂😂

I'd've liked the draw to have been done this evening with all ties having now been completed and the maximum prep time for organising dates, venues and coverage, before SL & Championship fixtures take precedence next week.

Earlier rounds have had premature draws including some ties with endless options due to as then unplayed fixtures.

Now things have swung the other way. Incoherent planning imho.

This years Superbowl half time will be hosted by Tanya Arnold and performed by Jamie Jones Buchanan and the Director of Rugby for Batley Bulldogs.

You could say that about anything on the One a show though, not that I ever watch it but all of their articles won’t entertain all of their viewers.

You’d need Alex Simmonds doing a DJ set.

You think the FA asked what was on either side of the draw when they were discussing this with the BBC? I doubt that, and also I don’t they’d care if the RL draw was on anyway, it would hardly detract from theirs.

If the game next week wasn’t on BBC2, then I wouldn’t see any logic at all in the draw being held back a week. Hopefully the bbc coverage of the next round isn’t as bad as it was last year, with a game on a Friday night hidden away on iPlayer

I'm glad you don't think it's a daft idea. I wasn't suggesting a joint draw,  rather after or before the F A cup draw, maybe separated by ten or so minutes,  the One Show host whoever that is, I don't watch it either, could say ," now we go over to RFL headquarters for the Challenge Cup draw." What's wrong with that?

Exactly, and it would last about 2 minutes with 16 teams in. The FA Cup is finished for me now they’ve scrapped replays anyway, it’s just another inconvenience for the rich franchises.

Off topic: Tell Liverpool it's a relief for them the inconvenience is out the way after today's shocker.

Can anyone tell me regarding American Football:-

1)Why do they call it Football, when only 2 players are allowed to kick the ball

2) Why is the main object of the game described as a touchdown when 90% of the time the ball never touches the ground?

3) Why is the technology we have in football to see if the ball has crossed the line, not used instead of the ridiculous board and chain?

Whatever money is being spent of Michael Buffer is better than the total Simmonds took from the game.

The beauty of AI:

 * American football evolved from rugby, which in turn evolved from earlier forms of "football" where kicking was more prominent. Even though kicking is less frequent in modern American football, the name stuck.

 * The term "touchdown" refers to the act of touching the ball down in the opponent's end zone, which was the original way of scoring in early forms of the game. While the rules have changed to allow for other ways of scoring, the name "touchdown" has remained.

 * The use of technology in American football is a complex issue. While there are technologies available to determine if the ball has crossed the line, there are concerns about accuracy, consistency, and the impact on the flow of the game. The current system of using a chain crew to measure first downs is seen by some as a more reliable and less disruptive method.

Flow of the game? Gridiron has a flow? This is obviously some strange usage of the phrase I wasn't previously aware of.

With regards to question 1, all the codes of football are called that because they’re played on foot rather than on horseback. It has nothing to do with kicking the ball.

Polo should be called Horsebackball.

Handball didn't get that memo.

You may as well ask why our sport still refers to "tries" when the act long since became a point scoring act in its own right rather than just a prelude to trying to score.

Sports terminology is bound up in history but as long as everyone knows  what it means there's no need to try and unpick it.
