Gigs 2025

So we (Rise Like Lions) will be bringing some old school punk to The Royal Oak in Keighley on the 7th March from 9:00 pm onwards

 

Meanwhile my “other” project Coughlan and Downes,  will be doing a support set for the Everley Drinkers on Saturday March 15th at the Halifax Irish club from 5pm onwards, expect much Poguesy style shenanigans 

And then the following night the 16th I’m off to the O2 academy in Leeds for similar Celtic exuberance from The Mary Wallopers

Thanks for starting a new 2025 thread on this, Phil.

One of the great things about RL fans is their collective diversity.  As if to prove that point, my next performance outing will be completely different from yours, Phil. 

I will be in the resident chamber choir singing choral evensong in Salisbury Cathedral on Tuesday, 18th February, at 5.30pm.  The responses will be sung to a setting by Bernard Rose, the evening canticles are Sumsion in G and the anthem is by Maurice Bevan.

I (touchwood) have got a some gigs lined up. 

The Bug Club - Manchester Gorilla (this depends if Saints are playing at home). 
Soccer Mommy - Manchester New Century Hall. 
The Wedding Present - o2 Academy. 
I would love to go and see Half Man Half Biscuit at the Ritz at the end of June but that depends if i have any cash left to buy a ticket.

I didn’t know HMHB were still going, I used to listen to Back in the DHSS when I was pretending to revise for my A Levels.

thats criminal - they have had some brilliant albums out in the last 10- 15 years - been to see em about 7 times - mainly at the picturedome in holmfirth - get revising on your hmhb

I have got Black Grape, can't belive its the 30th Anniversary of its great when your straight, I reckon it should be about 15 years ago!

 

Also got the Slow Readers album launch at The Met in Bury, and Shed Seven at Castlefield Bowl. I tend to average about 1 a month so looking at adding some more 

 

Sorry, just remembered I have the Pogues as well, not sure if comedy counts but we have Rob beckett and the Fast Show tickets

Squeezed in Hard fi at the back of the year as a freebie as I workbst Leeds Uni in the Pit. Known bands coming up that I may he able to work at include Sherlocks, Wedding Present, Futureheads and Zutons. Hope we get the Piece Hall contract again.

Great reading the bands mentioned on here . Have one over here that I’m excited about, I remember when I was a young primary school kid the school taking us to see a classical concert, Holst’s Planet Suite, I guess giving us some culture lol. Was wowed by the volume of Mars when it kicks off, had never experienced that before.  Going to see it live again for the first time in over 40 years this month, really looking forward to it!  Could be Motörhead in the car on the way there too, good music is good music is good music

Teenage Fanclub and the Bunnymen in the summer.

Would also like to see Jerry Harrison as he's playing Remain in Light in full with Adrian Belew

Currently trying to source Back to the beginning tickets as its basically a whos who of a number of my favourite bands but tickets very pricey and like gold dust.

I'm happy to go to any type of gig from thrash metal to folk to punk to indie pop and try to go to as many as possible. It's quite a good time for gig goers at the moment in terms of the number of venues and variety of acts so we should use it or lose it.

Never really been bothered about going to see bands live.  Only been probably a dozen times and all of them whilst I lived in Oz.

However, on Tuesday I am off to see OMD at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre.  On the same night, Kylie Minogue is also performing at the same venue ….. hope to God that I get into the right queue!

"So, where do swallows go when they disappear in the autumn?  Oh, come on, you didn’t think it was Africa, did you?  And which bird migrates to the moon?  Clue – it’s not the swallow!  And why is Jesus likened to a pelican?

Music in Whiteparish – the concert series that brings professional and quality amateur performers to the village – is back for another season.  Songs – and quirky facts and quotations – about birds make up the opening offering.  And the answers to those three questions will all be revealed. 

Of all the birds is on Saturday, 24^th May at 7pm, and will be in Whiteparish’s village church.  The performers are new ensemble, CPA, which stands for Cantores Parochiae Albae (and, in case you’re wondering, that’s Latin for Whiteparish Singers!)  Their concert will show how birds were depicted in 16^th and 17^th century music, with vigorous performances of madrigals, part-songs, catches and a motet.  And there will be some readings as well.

Tickets are £15 (£8 for under-18s) from Whiteparish Village Store or online, for a booking fee, at www.ticketsource.co.uk/wp-music.

Richard Tulloch, the Whiteparish church choir director, who has put together both CPA and the concert programme, says, “I hope this concert will appeal to a wide range of people, including both music lovers and birdwatchers!”  Richard, who is a sixth cousin of the late, legendary Shetland birder, Bobby Tulloch, is delighted to combine two of his passions in life in one event."

Really like the sound of the two nighter in London but I think ticket prices might well be prohibitive.

Been following the M72 videos they've been posting on YouTube. The band look as though they've been on great form.
