Mark Posted February 11 Posted February 11 I must admit, I can't get up any enthusiasm for this, might give it a swerve and wait until the league season starts. wayner Posted February 12 Posted February 12 I agree as I think the 1895 cup is a valueless competition - gets no media coverage and is a crumb from the table for teams outside SL as the challenge cup is now geared up for only SL clubs to get to the final - there you go I am going off on one again. That being said I will be going to Rochdale to see how the team fairs - we could be the surprise team this season in the division if the mostly young players can gel and compete in the division. With the so called super 8 at the end of the season I think it will be really hard for any League 1 clubs to make it to the Championship.

It's a trophy that the clubs below Super Greed can aspire to but, it's main purpose is to help fill Wembley for the main event.
Joe 90 Posted February 13 Posted February 13 I don't agree. Speaking as a Hornets supporter, I think the early Challenge cup and 1895 have given a better run in to the regular season than the meaningless friendlies we are used to. The Challenge cup brought Widnes and a good crowd to the Crown Oil. Cornwall came to Rochdale in the 1895 prelims and was a good workout. Now we have a local derby with Swinton, followed by another local derby with Oldham for the winners. Enjoyed every game ! Don't forget that the management of Swinton and Rochdale are working their socks off to put competitive teams out in what will be a great League One this year. Lets get behind them. Can't wait for Sunday !!!!

I won't go to Hornets again anyway because they don't sell a printed programme.

wayner Posted February 17 Posted February 17 Close game not much in it really - would say Rochdale scored a couple of good tries in the second half - Swinton's tries were well worked but we conceded too many penalties at critical times

wayner Posted February 18 Posted February 18 Briers played well although he missed a tackle and Rochdale scored from it. Sidlow played well as did Roby - I think all the pack played hard didn't miss any tackles and the team completed all its sets - not sure about Abram at scrum half although he scored a good try and shovelled the ball out well - would like to see Stevens in the side. Didn't think they used Walker effectively - e.g. near the line. Higham played at centre and he looked good with the ball and stood up well to the Rochdale centres and second row, young hooker Hartill did well and Cox and Rodden both worked really hard, as did all the pack really. I think without giving so many penalties away the team would have probably won the match. Else had a really good game for Rochdale. 1
Mark Posted February 18 Author Posted February 18 Else was a very good pick up for Rochdale, I wish he had tested himself in the Championship with us 1 "When you participate in sporting events, it's not whether you win or lose; it's how drunk you get." -Homer Simpson "I couldn't be more chuffed if I were a badger at the start of the mating season" Ian Holloway
