Sports Prophet Posted February 16, 2025 Posted February 16, 2025 I would like to know the general consensus of the video ref. In SL, they are soooooooo slow and pedantic. Ben Thaler leads from the front and the rest copy. I find the requirement to review the same angle over and over again in order to deliver a decision which should have been made 30, 45, 60 or 180 seconds earlier is a real mood killer and irritating. The NRL bunker for all its faults is brilliant. Decisions done quickly with very little disruption to the game. 4

Funny that, because during the WC over there I thought the opposite, I thought they made ours look slow and extremely tedious. I used to think that video refs over here where under the mistaken belief that they added to the excitement by making the crowd wait for their decision. From what I`ve seen of the pre-season challenge, I think some still do. 1
sam4731 Posted February 16, 2025 Posted February 16, 2025 I think they should get 3 watches/angles then they have to make a decision. If 3 watches isn't enough, it can't be conclusive. 1
BadlyOverdrawnBoy Posted February 16, 2025 Posted February 16, 2025 I think part of the trouble is that the definition and frame rates over here are often sub prime. The NRL camera operators also have excellent positional sense.
Dave T Posted February 16, 2025 Posted February 16, 2025 I haven't found too much of an issue in the few games I watched this weekend. But I didn't see the match people were complaining about with Thaler as VR. Broadly it's fine imo.
