I've been following a couple of projects in Afghanistan and all the central Asian -stans get regular mentions in my consumption.

I'll throw in either Kiribati or Tuvalu

Kiribati is probably the most mispronounced too.

Although the pronunciation makes perfect sense when you know the etymology. I wonder who decided on the spelling when Kiribas would have been so obvious. I think the more interesting part is the demonym of the people. They aren't called Kiribatians or anything like that. It's iKiribati

In the news at least a couple of times a year.

You want a stable, small country, not in Europe, not involved in drugs, and without a decent football team.

The problem is, if you’be heard about them then they’ve already failed the test.

I'm going to throw a curveball and suggest a couple of countries that aren't un members but do have a handful of countries that recognise them as independent states so could just about be considered countries.

Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

Yeah but they've both been mentioned fairly regularly since the invasion of Ukraine. (although none of the mentions contain any recent news about them)

Since they will all have been pointless answers listed on Pointless, this thread is effectively null and void.

Next question please, Mr Goose.

I didn't say name a country you've never heard of, I just said what is the least mentioned country, so one you never hear much about?

Exactly so they would have to be remote, stable and not sporty- or else they’re going to crop up. Sealand is in the news pretty much every year.

I'm gonna break this down a bit more. The least mentioned country on each continent.

Europe - Andorra

Asia - Tajikistan

Oceania - Palau

Africa - Burundi

South America - Paraguay

North America - Grenada

Antarctica - Antarctica

Thinking about it in this way, I'd say that north America is the least talked about continent proportionate to the amount of countries.

I think that's mainly because of the obsession our media has with the US, especially the BBC. I watch the BBC quiz shows regularly and something I've always noticed is how many questions there are about the US and how little about any other parts of the world and BBC news coverage of the US far outweighs anywhere else; there could be a war going on in any African country (there probably is right now) and it will barely be reported on but some random person in America stubs their toe and it's wall to wall, 24hr coverage of every aspect of toe stubbing from in depth interviews with the victim to documentaries about the science behind toes.

Tadjikistan has had some coverage recently because of the Afghan project to take water from the Amu Darya and run it out into the desert. The Amu Darya is Tajikistan's main river. Palau got mentioned a few days ago as one of only 18 countries that voted against the Ukraine resolution in the UN General Assembly. Burundi is in the news because of the refugees flowing in from the current fighting in DRC. This situation in eastern DRC has gotten Burundi a mention almost weekly for a couple of years.

If you want obscure Africa try Eswatini or Lesotho.

I've read a bit about Eswatini and Lesotho recently, Eswatini cos I was reading about the name change and the origins of the name, and Lesotho cos I was looking up some geographical stats about it. So these countries are not obscure to me personally.

Another African country I hear very little about is Comoros.
