I remember buying the year book and it gave me access to the forum, instead of paying the fee.  A long time ago that, I have had a few accounts (not banned ;)) I just lost the credentials. Bit the bullet and registered again recently, after just browsing for a decade.

Would you say who your previous alias(s) were? No worries if not - just as some poster may recognise you from that period. I said earlier, I was a long time lurker, after my dad stopped posting on the amatuer/NCL threads, for about a year I reckon and then I guess 'reluanched' HGG as myself - hoping my dad hadn't p*ssed too many people off 😅

In hindsight, I probably should've just set up my own profile but I wasn't sure how it worked with my email being attached to this alias.

Feb 13 2003 according to my profile.

I was in the older version before that. Rhubarb is still around and annoying people ( long may he continue) he had a habit of popping up with various aliases, but he probably got  bored.

Similar to others you've probably been around longer and that's just the date you was migrated onto this version of TRL, if that sounds plausible to you?

Yes, there was a previous incarnation of the forum in the late Nineties.

the final night of that forum was a thing of legend - a Sunday evening if Im not mistaken - when someone started a thread to "smash the forum up" on the last night and it snowballed in to a jamboree of amazing off the cuff posts that were a thing of magic and prob the best thread ever started and finished  - I  consider whoever started that thread and fuelled it to its conclusion to be a genius (whoever it may have been)

November 2003 for me too, didn't we all have to pay a tenner to get in as well?

I bought a book instead.

Must have been around 2003, definitely remember putting my £10 cheque in the post.

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

I've been a reader of the forum for the last decade, but I only signed up prior to the 2022 season. The Brits in the NRL thread (hope Dunbar comes back) was the main impetus for my making an account.

My account says 2016, but I am sure I was reading gor years prior to that.

Circa 2004-2012 I was on RLfans (for my English RL fix) and LeagueUnlimited for NRL talk. But both really went downhill at some point and I suppose a lot of people migrated to social media and/or here perhaps?

 do miss Rhubarbtriangulist.

One of my favourite moments on here was when a bloke posted that he was recording a match so he didn't want to know the score. Everyone seemed to comply with his wishes - different times! - but then Rhuby sent him the result in a PM. The bloke was really mad and came on ranting and raving.

Also remember Paley and his badgering of a Guardian journalist - Frank Keating? And some attempt to get everyone to use their PCs to do something which got the forum into a global top 50 of something. Yeah, memory not so good.

Just had a look at a day from 2001 on one of those internet time machine things - I was here then but didn't post very much. The more prominent posters were people like Frank Machin (later L'angelo Mysterioso), Ed I Tackle (who I think is Padge now ?), League Freak, Chairman M, Millward Is A Gurner, Guess Who, Daza XIII.....

Correct.

That was 'folding' - getting PCs in saver mode to run something that had to do with ... I want to say cancer?

I must have been on here at that time. I remember all those, plus Paley, Cas Vegas, the Dally Messenger epoch, and many more. I never paid my fiver, but IIRC we were let on for free if we'd been around a while. Many many posters have come and gone. Too many sadly have passed away.

25 years, eh?

2005 for me, but I think i was on before that and left as it was horrendously clicky, 3 or 4 posters believed it was their forum and would constantly hound anyone not in their "gang" out.

I remember joining in early 2001 on the old version of the forum. I was only in Year 9 back then!

Back then, people used to mock others for typing in "txt spk", so this online bullying really helped me hyper-focus my typing and helped me with my coursework 🤣

I remember sneaking onto TRL at my desk when I worked in York between 1997 and 2000 (just checked my cv!). I used to sit next to "York Rhino" at work, who some may remember as a combative lefty with no diplomatic filter (a bit like L'Angelo).

I remember misunderstanding the humour, sarcasm and subtle mickey taking of people like Padge, who inadvertently taught me how to deal with internet forums. The union bloke used to wind me up to death until I realised it's all just words on a screen. He was called Clive Woody I think.

Cas Vegas was ace, Silent Bob was legendary, Gingerjon and Futtocks remain firm favourites and there are so many characters that have been and gone; while some endure and continue to entertain and educate.

I have no idea when I registered but it must be 2000 at the latest. Anyone know when this thing started? John  must know.
