Following this weekends games i've seen both Leigh and Swinton fans complaining about music/sound effects after trys/kicks - Even when the away team scored! Apparently Leigh even played a comedy WAH WAH WAH noise when Gaz O'Brien missed an important kick! I get that sometimes it can add to it and get the crowd going, but celebrating your opponents scores and mocking your own teams errors/mishaps?? Utterly bizarre. Who decides these things?🤣

It would appear, the decision in this instance was made by Derek Beaumont.

Well, at Leigh anyway, doubt he decided it for Swinton.

I agree, it added to the somewhat farcical atmosphere as Wakey's lead grew.

The whole try music thing is garbage, we don't need it in rugby league as fans want to sing their own songs, it was copied from football who used goal music to get the middle class tourists off their seats when a goal was scored rather than clapping politely sat down, for some reason rugby teams decided they would kill any post score atmosphere by blasting out Tom Hark or some other eardrum poison on the PA system while hoardes of happy, singing supporters are drowned out.

Doing it for the opposition is just downright ridiculous though, god knows who decided that this was going to happen.

Tbf I’d say it’s been in RL for much longer, certainly since the advent of SL if not slightly before, whereas football was an early 2000s thing that wasn’t necessarily widespread (and still isn’t)

Literally anything negative about RL will have someone saying it’s “copied from football”, whether or not that is remotely true.

Whilst others claim "only in RL" when something bad happens, despite the thing being common in sports.

Or celebrating the Darts presentation saying we should do stuff like that.

Contradictions galore.

I'm a fan of music being part of matchday tbh.

It's one of those things that I remember being part of RL for as long as I've watched it (over 30 years), but people talk about it like it was just introduced in the last season or two.

There are certain songs and volume levels I appreciate more than others, but broadly it's fine and you certainly need a bit of music to fill the void while you're waiting for a VR decision.

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

Could get through a whole album on one decision

I've got no issue with try music, although the playing of Tom Hark should be an automatic deduction of 10 IMG points.

Strong disagree. At Warrington, it's broadly still the one that works. But in RL we were the OG with that tune, others should be banned from using it.

I like post try music, but my cynical nature means I'd rather just have home teams getting it (with perhaps some cynical missed conversion music for the opposition).

I dislike generic inane music for this though, if theres a song or player chant your fans use, then go for that over random spotify top 50 song.

The PA guy could make a point by putting on a song known for its length when the VAR starts - Stairway to Heaven or Freebird come to mind.

I didn’t used to mind Try music but something changed when ‘Fiesta’ by The Pogues was played after each of the 25 (yes, 25) York Knights Tries against West Wales.

Is it an Urban Myth that Fev used to play the Benny Hill music when a scuffle broke out on the pitch ?

I'd like to think it was true 😀

I'm sure, like most terrible things that have entered sport in my lifetime, its origins are to be found in North America.

I watch most sport on mute these days. Can't stand the music. Can't stand the commentators. Can't stand the talking heads. Sport would be best if it just went away altogether.

You don't have to be so miserable about everything.

Apart from the sarcasm that went undetected, I do actually watch sport on mute quite frequently while listening to Youtube or podcasts. Nothing of value is lost--both the eyes and ears get to enjoy what they prefer--and you get double the entertainment in a two-hour window.
