Find that very strange. At least Lepton and Almondbury are in Huddersfield. It doesn’t seem like a merger, more like they’re folding and Mirfield are swallowing them up

If you understand what Mirfield are doing at all levels of the game, this isn't surprising at all. They've been pinching players since their latest incarnation in 2022, right through the junior levels. Now they're swallowing up a whole club, because Spartans have overall better players (at open age at least) and seemingly in some strife. The NCL application will be going in next.

The timing of it one game into the season is a bit odd. Mirfield have effectively resigned from the league and will be back next year with two teams.

I think they’ve openly said they want to be in NCL

I don't mind them having NCL ambition - I just don't like how they're going about it. 'A bloke with a bit of money' never ends well in the community game.

The bloke with a bit of money has been entrenched in the game for 30 years plus

When I played for Mirfield 34 years ago the guy with a bit of cash was the ball boy ! Maybe we should applaud the guy that came good ?

Pinching junior players - give me a break. The vast majority are Mirfield lads who hadn’t played RL before.

Some community teams (even whole clubs) should be looking at their own cultures. My lad needed a more positive environment and he’s ended up with that, great coaches and amazing support.

The setup isn’t about bricks and mortar for me (although there are plans for the future), it’s about the environment and community created by coaches, volunteers, parents and supporters. Parents and juniors are opting to join, not being ‘pinched’.
