Just for fun.

The players in the league have been redistributed into new squads based on their position, e.g. all the props are in one squad, wingers in another, etc.

Your new league is now:

Full Back Falcons

Winger Warriors

Centre Centurions

Half Back Broncos

Hooker Hawks

Prop Forward Panthers

Second Row Saints

Loose Forward Lions

Which squad would win the league and why? Which would finish last?

I'd back the Interchange Iguanas to at least make the playoffs.

Wingers top; props bottom.

Modern wingers bring the ball out of their end. The props would tire.

Would the wingers be able to make the yardage of the props though? And would they be able to stop them on their line? Wouldn't this tire out the wingers?

Gotta be the props, most of them stand 20 metres in front of play anyway these days so would have a head start when the ball was kicked downfield!

Yeah, but would a prop kicker be able to get the ball downfield?

I think it would be a bit like the Wigan vs Bath games.

Props keeping the ball in tight, with the wingers burning them when they opened it up.

Ryan Hall and Tom Lineham could play prop in the Wingers team, hehe...

Yes. With the likes of Marshall and Charnley, too. These guys are no lightweights and frequently do the hard yards in-field as well as on the wing.

I feel like you could make a case for any of them, but I would lean towards the back rowers or hookers. They probably have the best blend of skills.

Wingers would do ok with the ball, but might be a bit of a car crash in defence - can you imagine a team of wingers trying to stop Ese'ese. Walmsley etc? Props would be very good for a while but run out of steam.

Unlikely to put in an 80 minute performance, expect the Iguanas to fade badly when all their players go off.

I have a union-playing mate who entered as one of a team of props in a 7s tournament. They scored first, then again, then the opposition discovered that they only had to boot the ball down field and the wingers cleaned up. They returned to the clubhouse and within an hour every team member had bought a round.

Probably not but they'd only need to get it 20 metres 🙂

Second rowers or wingers, I think. You've got a good enough mix of styles in Super League 2nd rowers to cover the wide and central positions effectively, as well as a fre decent ball players to keep it moving.

Most teams should be able to get around the props team pretty easily, while in defence you could probably afford to put in 6 or 7 tacklers on each play without the risk of being caught short on the edges.

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

I think this a superb question. Superb.

I've often thought that in football, no one beats 11 Wayne Rooneys.

Is this the same, 13 Nathan Clearys v. 13 Isiah Yeos?

Or.. is it a 13 selected from the best full backs (so 13 different full backs), v. 13 different props?

If it's the latter, i am absolutely going to think of those teams..

Arguments could be made for all positions but I’d go fullbacks great in defence and attack

I'd imagine centres, surprised no one else has said them. They offer the perfect blend of a bit more size to deal with the forward options, compared to the rest of the backs, but still plenty of pace and decent skill.
