Hi lads n lasses.

Apologies im a bit of a novice when it comes to RL , ive only just starting watching the super league on sky and found myself loving it. Wish I got into it earlier in life but living in the north east there isn’t much talk of the sport at all , it’s football and that’s it.

I’ve just bought all 3 ashes test tickets and a magic weekend ticket in a few weeks and can’t wait for it.

What’s your thoughts on the magic weekend ? Is this good for the game ?

Is it a weekend that all fans look forward to ?

I feel the ashes series is a big deal and very pleased I managed to get tickets. I get the general feel that everyone is buzzing for it?

In general how do you feel the game in England is going ?

Welcome to the forum mate. If you read much of that we write in here you’d think the game is in its last death throes but it’s not, there’s a lot to be optimistic about.

Personally I am not crazy about it, but I know a lot of people love it, so you might get a mixed response on this one, but I believe the majority of people like it.

Big time, as ticket sales show.

In general how do you feel the game in England is going?
I don't think it's going too bad.  A lot of people will answer this one negatively and saying the game is going backwards.  I believe it's just been stagnant.  The fact NRL has been booming in the post-covid era has made it look worse than it actually is.

PS:  Don't forget to check out a Newcastle Thunder match too at some point.  They've had a difficult last few seasons and would appreciate your support!

Great to hear from a fellow recent disciple of the sport - have you decided which team you will support?

Thank you , no not decided who yet , I’m going to go to a few matches in the coming weeks to get a feel of it, starting with Leeds v hull KR on the 25th April.

Thanks for the reply. I did get the impression from reading some posts on here that the game is going downhill. But like you said the ticket sales for the ashes are booming , hopefully encourage a few more new fans like myself to get into it.

Leeds V KR will be a cracking game and even though i’m biased, Headingley is a fantastic place to watch a RL game on a Friday evening.

The game has many issues but there is a lot of positives in the game at the moment aswell.

You’ll get hooked I promise you, even a poor game of RL is better than most, if not all other sports

Neither Leeds nor HKR need any more fans.

Wakefield Trinity are a Phoenix club on the rise and would be just about the quickest and easiest ground for you to get to from the NE.

Pick US!! 😉

(I'm certain you'll enjoy all the games you are planning to attend).

Welcome to the sport and forum.

Regarding Magic weekend, i like it or i like the idea of it but i have found reently it has lost some of the enjoyment from it, mainly as fans tend to come in for them game and leave which doesn't feel as much of a party as it first used to, also the fans of other teams who show disrespect and start singing their songs while other game are on, i know it's probably a more personal petty thing but it annoys me.

I love going to International games but unfortunately we simply don't have enough if it to enjoy.

I also really like wheelchair rugby league and take my Grandson to the England games, the sport and the atmosphere at them is brilliant, we love it.

They have a lots of links to the south side of the Tyne - they were called Gateshead Thunder until 2015 and originally played there.

Their current home is also south of the river in Blaydon.

To be honest i found myself flicking through the channels and a game was about to start, so thought why not. Then watched another and so on …. I then started reading up on the super league and rugby league in general. I loved how passionate the fans came across on the TV and got myself well into it. I’m still undecided on who to follow, with the big weekend coming up give me a great chance to see a lot of the teams play and mix with all fans.

I appreciate that a lot of you have been following RL for all you life and most are born into it but thanks for the warm welcome.

Despite some of the ‘bickering’ RL fans are generally very welcoming and it is like tge old cliche a’RL family’ see how the sport and it’s fans rallied around Rob Burrow for example.

Hope you get to watch the Hull derby tomorrow.   2 teams from the same city  . I know of a few families where siblings support different sides.  Not uncommon to see a family going to the match where they are in opposing shirts.

Yea I was looking on the hull website and still some tickets available, if I can get kids looked after I might have a day out down there, if not I’ll watch it from the comfort of my sofa.

Is the hull derby the biggest in the league ?

No, not even close to the West cumbrian derby, crowds expected to be around 20,000 this Friday, get over for it...

Disclaimer - large parts of this statement may NOT be true...other than its on Friday....and its in West Cumbria.
