Sadly there didn't seem to be very many turning up early to watch the Valkyrie play today and the whole atmosphere was a a little flat. I can understand it...double headers can be difficult to commit the time to when you might have other things to get done on a weekend.

It all happened quite out of the blue but does anyone who did go know what actually went on with Jess Sharp's Red card? I heard mention of a stamping but also saw her gesturing straight after as if a biting incident had taken place?

The crowd is frustrating when watching the Valks. We've brought the drum to the last few home games but people seem very reluctant to join in and almost seem a bit put out and bothered when any sort of chant is attempted and the drum is banged.

Unfortunately I think one of the reasons more people don't go to both games is because the food and drink is too expensive and away from the rugby there's not a lot happening. Unless you're a committed fan it's hard to keep everyone interested and make a day of it.

I missed the red card but everyone I spoke too had absolutely no idea what it was for and yes it seemed just completely out of the blue.

until SMC pull their finger out n get the food situation sorted out theres little or no point having double headers.

as for the knights game im beginning to think that hingano is currently our weakest link, at the back end of last year he was top class and was a big part in our revival but this term hes back to where he was at the start of last year. the words 'rugby smarts' and 'hingano' just do not seem to go together

the ref was abysmal on sunday, id have any of the young kids over him any day...well actually anybody rather than him.

widnes were v poor, eveything they got we gave them.

It's not only the ref. though is it? He was poor, but what about those two blokes carrying flags about all afternoon, they weren't much help. The number of forward passes they failed to call was ridiculous.

tbf to the touchies they did call the refs attention to a couple of high shots/lost balls hed missed and i dont think the ref would have given baileys try if the touchie hadnt told him it was grounded ok despite mikos first reaction being to shake his head.

forward passes are the refs responsibility.

A lot of the time TJs are in a far better position than the ref to call a forward pass, for instance the pass from dummy half in the move that led to the first Widnes try yesterday looked like it was probably forward from the TV angle but for passes like that the ref is always going to have the worst possible view in terms of judging the angle of the pass from head on whereas the TJs should be relatively side on and thus have a hugely better viewing angle to call those decisons.

The double headers are such a missed opportunity. When they happen, they should have a mini festival feel with the aim of attracting families to spend the whole day there. Pop-up food and craft beer stalls, activities on the concourse in front of the stadium involving players not on the pitch that day, or past players. Stuff for kids to do on the all weather mini pitches. Even get the involvement of other stakeholders in Vanguard. Bowling and minigolf slots between the matches with Hollywood Bowl. Same with the Clip 'n' Climb guys. SG Petch or Stoneacre showing their latest model. Even a blood pressure/health activity with the hospital . And, most important of all, representation from all the key York RL sponsor businesses.  And so on.

Yes, it would be a lot of coordination, and maybe that means just doing this once a year, which wouldn't be a bad thing if it was a genuine occasion to celebrate York RL.

I go to Vallardo for a pint and a burger in between double header games, its spot on!

Hingano was miles off it yesterday, his defensive reads were atrocious. I wonder if his broken hand is still bothering him? Hudson is going to be awesome for us when fully up to speed, and I enjoyed O'Neill's keen-ness when he finally got his opportunity.

A win's a win. After the Fev result it was important to get two league points today, so job done.

I've never seen anyone warming up with such intensity...I was worried he'd pick up an injury! Good on him though, hope he gets a chance to show everyone what he can bring to the team

Ata jumped out of the defensive line three times that I could count, getting nowhere near the player he was trying to take out. Three very wayward passes too......

Hodson's spell was a great cameo - none of the Widnes defenders looked very happy when he was running at them 😄

Regarding the double headers, maybe they could try playing the Knights game first, with the Valks kicking off at say 5.00 or 5.15. I'm sure many fans would stay on.

I have heard the 'official' word, Gav but having watched him in the last three games, Ata's hand injury # is definitely a problem with some passes, not all. Watch him readjust on the pass he threw to BJB at the hooter yesterday. And some of the flying out of the line to put a hit in is so that he doesnt have to grapple the player in the defensive line, I reckon. I actually saw him flexing that hand against Fev during play which was what prompted the question to Mash.

His hit on Vuniyayawa last week just wrongfooted the rest of our defence and, if anything, contributed to the Fev prop's momentum down the hill.

But... having said all that, he terrorised that Widnes defence in the second half yesterday with his strong running in.

Perhaps it might be wise to give Ata a week off for the London game and play Macca at stand off alongside Liam and give O'Neill a run out at 9, apart from that I would leave things as they are foir the starting 13 but give Hudson more game time and have Teanby on the bench.

Andy, can't argue with any of that!

London away and Hunslet at home next up. I'd let him rest up until the Caravan Cup Semi now...

Difficult one this , Ata is often our inspiration and game changer , the guy has had a couple of average games , he looks fit and may just be the spark we need in future games so perhaps a bit early to make that call.

If we get to Wembley it'll be good fun.

Other than that I think its a bit pointless. A final at Blackpool would be better, but sadly that's not possible with the football club's current owners.

Even though we lost by a whisker, the Northern Rail final is one of my favourite Knights memories as it entailed a road trip across the Pennines with my late dad. Fish & Chips, ice cream, beer, a walk along the prom and enjoying the greatest game. 'twas a perfect day out...almost!

Didn't we? Or was it a Northern Ford thing? My memory is shocking but we definitely got beat by Keighley in some final or other. Bloody 'ell....the dementia that got my dad is coming for me now....  😬
