Bit of a click-baity title there.

It seems to me like he's talking about the state of the coverage and how poor it is. That's why he says its not even shown in France.

I suspect a lot of it is based on the naivety of how big the game truly is here. The NRL could come in, make it 50% bigger and it still would barely touch the sides of the UK media etc.

He's having the same revelation that the NRL will have if they do decide to buy out the European Super League. The more level media playing field makes it so easy for them to sell the game in Australia.

Plus, as a resident of France, he could take out a SL+ sub and watch every single match live or on catch-up. Maybe someone could mention that to him.

Calling the games unwatchable, so bad, horrendous...what an absolute cretinous moron. Theres been some outstanding games this season, a hell of a lot more good games than bad. Maybe hes just talking about his own performances.

Yet those who support Kearys comments and the NRL takeover think cutting teams from the strong area of the northern hemisphere and making the league 20% French will give us a world wide TV deal.

Rhodri hits back!

I find Jones utterly uninspiring, and this interview was in his usual 'measured' style that he saw as a compliment, but I thought his responses were solid, he clearly isn't a salesman or full of charisma.

He rightly focused on the positives, the fact that it is at odds with what his coach thinks, his club were disappointed, and that he will hopefully change his opinion in the coming days and weeks.

I liked the fact he highlights he actually met Keary a few weeks ago despite Keary saying he doesn't know who the leaders are.

The messaging is all still a bit too wishy washy and passive, but the broad theme of the response was right.

He does appear to split out the product and the broadcasting as two separate things. His comments are certainly wider than aiming at Sky Sports.

He's happy to take the money from the Catalans as he's knows he couldn't get a contract with any NRL club.

I think he could have got a contract with a few NRL Clubs but probably not for the money Catalans are paying him.
He has not been in good form for several years in the NRL.

Maybe these two sentences are linked.

Poor Luke hasn't exactly endeared himself to SL fans or the administration. Of course it also has the potential to negatively influence would-be fans who are/were unconvinced and could be deterred from following the game by comments like this.

I interpreted his comments of as a criticism of the coverage rather than the game itself but the article doesn't make that explicit and so I suspect he was responding to some leading questions by the reporter, who goes on to edit his interview for maximum impact/offence.

It's a good example of the importance of controlling the narrative.

I don't mean we should be disseminating ''spin'' but we should (if it's possible) be doing what we can to ensure that our tales are clear, concise and unambiguous.

This is a debacle borne of a perfect storm of a foolish interviewee, an indifferent (or malicious) reporter and some careless/reckless editing, resulting in creating the worst possible interpretation of what was said.

Oh he has - that's the reason he got shipped out of Souths in a very unceremonious fashion. Thick as a brick Luke Keary and his comments should be treated with the contempt they deserve.
