Sat 7th June : The Betfred RL Challenge Cup Final : Hull Kingston Rovers v Warrington Wolves KO 3pm BBC1/BBC iPlayer

Seeing as this is the biggest game of the UK domestic game thus far in 2025, I thought it worthy of an early match thread.

For me, the only way Hull KR lose this is if they are crushed by the weight of expectation. Which could happen. I've heard many players talk about how nervous energy before these big games can tire you out before the game has even begun.

All things being equal though, Rovers are easily the better team and should end 40 years of hurt. As much as that pains me to say.

Rugby Union the only game in the world were the spectators handle the ball more than the players.

Hopefully so.

But having seen Rovers in quite a few Cup finals (northern rail, arriva trains, challenge cup). Rovers not turning up wouldn't be a suprise, we don't do well in finals. So going much more in hope. I think Rovers side.is much better, and this is where Warera-Hargreaves and McIlorum signings will be a benefit in my opinion.

I hope those two play because that will swing the penalty count towards Warrington.

Everything on the shoulders of Rovers, no pressure on Warrington. Wire quite capable of coming from a few scores behind. Warrington by 8.

Crowd of 60000 expected. Not too shabby.

Shabby or not it's got to be at Wembley, every players and most fans dream to get to Wembley.

Voted Warrington, more in hope than expectation.

KR have been the best team in the comp and wire with a couple missing points the one way.

Making history can weigh heavy though and it will be interesting how KR cope with that. Though it is not as though they’ve never played in a final before.

Could be a cracker or a bit of a tonking; if it’s close going into the last ten I’d fancy wire to pinch it.

Cannot bloody wait!

Even the most one eyed Warrington fan doesn't expect us to tonk HKR, I sure they will give us a game.  😀

Yeah, good luck to both teams and enjoy the day.

I get a feeling Warrington are going to give this one hell of a go and there is probably less than between the sides than the table would suggest. Willie Peters has got unbelievable consistency out of KR but in a one off occasion, Wire have plenty of players who can hurt you and a good few who know what it feels like to play in and win finals. I do think HKR will take it but not by many.

HKR by 4.

Who will the neutrals be supporting?

I'm trying to remain neutral but Hull KR have only won it once, compared to Warrington's 9 (including 4 in the 2000's), so I'm starting to favour them.

I wouldn't be unhappy whoever won though. Just hope it's a good game.

Can't see the enthusiasm of Warrington getting the better of the structure and consistency of HKR, I doubt that the Hull KR team will succumb to the occasion and bottle it, but hopefully it is a good spectacle and KR don't get a 'roll on' early doors, if they do I can see it being over by half time.

Also, big occasion can we take this as a dress rehearsal for Mikey v George in the test series?

What I'd like to happen:

Rovers to choke, Wire to click and Marc Sneyd to sink the boot in for good old times.

What I think will happen:

Rovers to get an early lead, Wire to get a couple back, then Rovers to pull away second half. Result will be clear by about 15 mins from full time.

But for now whilst I can, "...since 1985!"

To state the obvious we would need to put Hull KR under scoreboard pressure early on, similar to what we did in 2019 vs Saints. In all my time watching Warrington I've never known us to be good at chasing a game and things can spiral out of control quickly when we do.

It's pretty obvious we are carrying a few injuries even among those who will take the field, and there are a lot of unknowns. Hull KR look pretty close to full strength and will be feeling extremely confident. I expect them to win , but we are not a total write off.

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

Hoping and praying for a Wire victory. It'll be very though, KR have been brilliant this season. Will be watching from Turkey if I can find somewhere showing it.
