Given this is being reported by several sources and the announcement is imminent, it sounds legitimate. Wonderful and long overdue recognition!

With the best, thats a good bit of PR, though I would say the Bedford team, theres, like, you know, 13 blokes who can get together at the weekend to have a game together, which doesnt point to expansion of the game. Point, yeah go on!

Sounds like he's down there now, ready for being knighted tomorrow. It's fantastic to see him and the game get some recognition, even if it has taken far far too long. Kevin Sinfield surely comes next.

That is wonderful News I can remember walking up the hill from Bramley to watch that famous RL Cuptie at Headingley crowd of 38k (official) as a little boy I remember everyone talking about Billy Boston although there were quite a few great players in that Wigan side . We got moved to sit on the straw front of the south stand Sir Billy scored 2 unbelievable tries . I got talking to a wigan lad although we struggled to understand each others accent . Sir Billy Boston super star of our sport and Wigan Rl club .

About time

Technicality in that Bulmer - who I'd never heard of so have just looked up - was knighted for his public services whereas (let's assume) Boston is being knighted for services to rugby league?

Absolute legend, first RL player to receive a knighthood, also only sportsman to have three statues in his honour, Wigan, wembley and Cardiff.

Hopefully this leads to other worthy legends of our sport getting recognised in this way.

Not just a trickle either.

Disgraceful the way we’ve been treated whether you agree with the ‘honour’ of it or not.

Sir Billy Boston - well done for the sport and all you represent!

Yes, and surely Ellery Hanley must come into the reckoning soon
