About time. This would have worked well as a pre-big-match game, just like we used to have with the Silk Cut Plate competition, but it was always on a hiding to nothing as a post-big-match event.

We've clearly chosen to prioritise the women's final as the premium supporting match, for understandable reasons. If so the logical thing is to bring back the old lower leagues cup comp, with a final held at a sensible venue... we had a great time when Rovers won the Northern Rail cup in Blackpool back in the day.

Worked well ?   Remind me how many Silk Cut Plate competitons there actually were.

Well we beat Hunslet in the final once, and we had a great time, so even if that was "once" then it worked pretty well from my perspective 🤣

In all seriousness Rovers took a load of people down to Wembley that year, so that's the purpose isn't it? But that sort of thing only ever works as a warm-up to the main event. So it worked well in the sense it was clearly the apetiser to the main course. The way the 1895 Cup has been structured, it's like eating your prawn cocktail right after you've just had a load of profiteroles washed down with an Irish coffee, and maybe an After Eight mint. The meal's over, you're full, and so as we saw the other weekend everyone just wants to go home!

A lot of discussion on this thread already.

My sentiment is still the same, away from Wembley, an already unappealing competition loses its point for many.

4 games at Wembley in 1 day is not a good idea, only 1 can justify its presence on a financial basis, so if there are to be other games then good reasons to hold it at Wembley need to be better than the reasons for holding the games elsewhere. Be interesting to see what those reasons are, and what the game values most.

Of the two games, expect the 1895 Cup would draw more supporters than the Women's Final if it was played before the main final.

I agree 100%. I think the selection of the women's game is for wider strategic reasons eh.

But the women's final attracts BBC coverage.

The only reason the 1895 Cup came into being was to pad out the attendance to the CC Final, and it hasn't really achieved that. It was a poor reason to come up with a competition and I think that's a reflection of where it sits in the running order and the salience of most supporters.

There's a place for a lower-league cup, but not as an encore to a main event.

It was cool watching York win it at Wembley last week, but I certainly won't miss it if it drops off the calendar.

I would run the comp and book the final at Blackpool in 2026, and say publicly from the outset that if the Final doesn't pull in a minimum of 10,000 fans, then the comp will be shelved in 2027.

They finished bottom of the English group....Villeneuve beat Lancashire Lynx in the final.

I was of the opinion it came into being solely because of Derek Beaumont.

He realised non - Super League players would never play at Wembley due to the way the sport and the Challenge Cup is now structured.

He,out the goodness of his heart, decided on the name and gave his sponsorship of it.

I don't think Mr Beaumont got the assistance or full recognition for his efforts.

Full credit Derek Beaumont.Poor from the rest of the hierarchy.

You are the only winners, it was such a huge success.

I've never been a fan of having a second tier final after the main event. I'm sure that clubs that have won have been happy, but the scheduling means that it isn't as valued as it might otherwise be.

Ladies at 10.30, Second Tier final at 12.30, CC Final at 3 would be the only real way of having all three at Wembley.

Personally, I think they should just bring back the Northern Rail Cup and make the Final a day out in the North at a suitably sized stadium.

But then that schedule would lead to accusations of devaluing the women's final, who's kick off time will likely be determined by the BBC anyway.

4 games on the 1 day has always been flawed and has never been a good idea. I have argued before that there must be a lot of additional expense in hosting extra games, and its not just a free hit as some seemed to think, so its interesting to see them figures around that.

Blackpool seemed to work well as a lower league event venue and got good crowds. That seems a better approach to me.

Play the final in the North and it will be better attended. It's only at Wembley to make the attendance for the main event look a bit bigger.

Where would York have taken more than 3,000 to in the North? Or Wakey 10,000 (allegedly) last year?
